Thanks for more help.

txts are below. I noticed in the hijack log something I do not remember seeing before, the R1 - HKCU that has proxy override in the description. That doesn't sound good.

Clint,

That R1 entry is legit.

I'm not finding anything. I suggest you try posting a question for the Tech Team in the Windows forum. Please provide a link there back to this topic.

  • Make sure you have an Internet Connection.
  • Download OTCleanIt to your desktop and run it
  • A list of tool components used in the Cleanup of malware will be downloaded.
  • If your Firewall or Real Time protection attempts to block OTCleanUp to reach the Internet, please allow the application to do so.
  • Click Yes to begin the Cleanup process and remove these components, including this application.
  • You will be asked to reboot the machine to finish the Cleanup process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes.
One more question before I move to the Windows forum. When I did the OTClean up this time and right after removed all Java components and re-installed the lastest version (LD Tate had me do that I think), the computer and browsers functioned much faster. Then it incremently slows back down and browsers begin to timeout. Why do you think that happens?
Clint,

That sounds alot like an infection. The trouble is, I can't find one. Let's take a peek again and see if something that has revealed itself.

Please download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links and save it to your desktop.
    • DDS.scr
    • DDS.pif
  • Disable any script blocking protection (How to Disable your Security Programs)
  • Double click DDS icon to run the tool (may take up to 3 minutes to run)
  • When done, DDS.txt will open.
  • After a few moments, attach.txt will open in a second window.
  • Save both reports to your desktop.
—————————————————
  • Post the contents of the DDS.txt report in your next reply
  • Attach the Attach.txt report to your post by scroling down to the Attachments area and then clicking Browse. Browse to where you saved the file, and click Open and the click UPLOAD.

Clint,

Aha… looks like you may have been goored.

Please download GooredFix and save it to your Desktop. Double-click Goored.exe to run it. Select 1. Find Goored (no fix) by typing 1 and pressing Enter. A log will open, please post the contents of that log in your next reply (it can also be found on your desktop, called GooredLog.txt). Note: Do not run Option #2 yet.
Makes me glad we have something to kill finally. I think you finally found what got my computer starting back in Feb. Computer never really ran the same after a Java update prompt, which was one of the registry entries that was deleted. Computer is a lot faster, though there still have been a couple time outs, cannot find server. Why do think those happen? A Java prompt did come a few hours after running the Goored Fix, but I blocked it. What is this: C:\PROGRAM FILES\JAVA\JRE6\BIN\JAVA.EXE ?

Hijack log below. What are these entries for?

Clint,

Goored isn't related to a Java update. Java.exe is the executable that allows java to work.

Those three entries are all legit. The first one is a default entry, the second is related to quickbooks and the third is part of the google toolbar.

Log looks good :D

The following is my standard advice for the future. Use what you can and pat yourself on the back for what you're already doing.

Please take time to read Preventing Malware - Tools and Practices for Safe Computing. Very important information for your consideration is contained therein.

I would also suggest you read this:
So how did I get infected in the first place?

Please respond back that you understand the above and let me know if you have any questions. Otherwise, this thread will be closed Resolved.
So the browsers still time out part of the time. If I run the diagnostic tool, then it will connect again. Why do you think that still happens?
Clint,

I don't know why that's happening. I suggest you try the windows forum and have the Tech Team take a look. If you do that, please post a link to this thread so they can see what we've done.
TomK, thanks for all your help. It was hard to find but it is functioning so much better. I will contact the windows forum about the timeout issues. Thanks again.
