Hello, I was working with LD Tate on clearing some trojans from computer when the topic got closed. Topic had same name as this for reference. My browsers (IE and/or Firefox) are very slow, get redirected sometimes and time-out every few minutes. The redirection is really strange; one example is when I click on local newspaper website from yahoo local, it redirects me to pleaselinkmeto.com/?cmpid=fletcheror. What do I need to do? Thanks for your help.
Hi Clint,

:welcome:

My name is Tomk. I would be glad to take a look at your log and help you with solving any malware problems. HijackThis logs can take a while to research, so please be patient and I'd be grateful if you would note the following:

  • I will be working on your Malware issues, this may or may not, solve other issues you have with your machine.
  • The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for the issues on this machine.
  • Please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine appears to be clear. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.
  • It's often worth reading through these instructions and printing them for ease of reference.
  • If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to say or ask!! It's better to be sure and safe than sorry.
  • Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.

I need you to sort-of start over with me.

Download HijackThis from Here .
  • If using Internet Explorer, Please select RUN
  • If Using Firefox, Download to your Desktop and then Double-Click on Icon to start installation.
  • Choose the default location of C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis as the destination. HJT needs to be in its own folder so that the program itself isn't deleted by accident. Having the backups could be VITAL to restoring your system if something went wrong in the FIX process!
  • Click the Install button.
  • Accept the license agreement .
  • The progam will place a shortcut on your desktop. This will make it easier for you to access the tool when required.
  • Click Do a system scan and save a log file. A Notepad file will open.
  • To post the text, first you must highlight the entire text and then press the (Ctrl+C) keys which copies it to your clipboard.
  • Now paste the log into this thread using the (Ctrl + V) buttons.

DO NOT MAKE ANY CHANGES OR CLICK "FIX CHECKED" UNTIL WE CHECK THE LOG, AS MOST OF THE FILES ARE LEGIT AND VITAL TO THE FUNCTION OF YOUR COMPUTER
Okay. Hijack log is below. Browsers are very slow and sometimes get redirected, timed-out often. One other quick note, AVG found these trojans locations, named Trojan Horse BHO.IIO. 1) C:\WINDOWS\csepiod.old (LD had me rename it old; for several days nothing happened or changed, then it was listed as a trojan); 2) C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\system profile\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Contect.IE5\W1URS5IN\install{1}.exe

Clint,

You may have already done this but let's do it again.

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
Download - ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

(If you use FireFox or the Opera browser
To keep saved passwords, click No at the prompt.)

It's normal after running ATF cleaner that the PC will be slower to boot the first time or two.

Then

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.

  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location and post the results.
  • Note: If you receive a notice that some of the items couldn't be removed, that they have been added to the delete on reboot list, please reboot (shut down your computer then restart it).
Also "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
Yeah, we did these steps. After this we did combofix. I did them again and posts are below. Computer is slow, especially IE and Firefox. Browsers get redirected sometimes to pleaselinkmeto.com/?cmpid=fletcheror, and both get timed-out a lot.

Thanks

Clint,

I guess the good news is there is not problem there. Let's get a different look at what's going on.

  • Download OTListIt2 to your desktop.
  • Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.
  • When the window appears, underneath Output at the top leave it at Normal Output.
  • Check the boxes beside LOP Check and Purity Check.
  • Click the Run Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.
  • When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTListIt.Txt and Extras.Txt. These are saved in the same location as OTListIt2.
  • Please copy (Edit->Select All, Edit->Copy) the contents of these files, one at a time, and post it with your next reply. You may need two posts to fit them all in.

Then test drive it and let me know how it's running.
I tried giving it a a little extra time and a few reboots. I think it may have helped a tiny bit, but hard to tell. It is still slow and timing out often.
Clint,

I'm beginning to think it's not a malware problem. Let's do an online scan and then if I still can't find anything, I'll send you to the Tech Team.

Please go to Kaspersky website and perform an online antivirus scan.

  • Read through the requirements and privacy statement and click on Accept button.
  • It will start downloading and installing the scanner and virus definitions. You will be prompted to install an application from Kaspersky. Click Run.
  • When the downloads have finished, click on Settings.
  • Make sure these boxes are checked (ticked). If they are not, please tick them and click on the Save button:
    • Spyware, Adware, Dialers, and other potentially dangerous programs
      Archives
      Mail databases
  • Click on My Computer under Scan.
  • Once the scan is complete, it will display the results. Click on View Scan Report.
  • You will see a list of infected items there. Click on Save Report As….
  • Save this report to a convenient place. Change the Files of type to Text file (.txt) before clicking on the Save button.
  • Please post this log in your next reply.

Clint,

It still "feels" like there is something more going on than that.

Please download gmer.zip from Gmer and save it to your desktop.

  • Right click on gmer.zip and select Extract All….
  • Click Next on seeing the Welcome to the Compressed (zipped) Folders Extraction Wizard.
  • Click on the Browse button. Click on Desktop. Then click OK.
  • Click Next. It will start extracting.
  • Once done, check (tick) the Show extracted files box and click Finish.
  • Double click on gmer.exe to run it.
  • Select the Rootkit tab.
  • On the right hand side, check all the items to be scanned, but leave Show All box unchecked.
  • Select all drives that are connected to your system to be scanned.
  • Click on the Scan button.
  • When the scan is finished, click Copy to save the scan log to the Windows clipboard.
  • Open Notepad or a similar text editor.
  • Paste the clipboard contents into the text editor.
  • Save the Gmer scan log and post it in your next reply.
  • Close Gmer.
  • Open Command Prompt by going to Start > Run and type in cmd. Press Enter.
  • In Command Prompt, type in net stop gmer. Press Enter.
  • Type in exit to close Command Prompt.

Note: Do not run any programs while Gmer is running.
Did the gmer and log below. I am not sure I understand what you meant by your last statement. Do you think this computer doesn't have that virus? Kaspersky/virus vault listed it in the top ten new, most active viruses for March, and the end of March was when all this trouble started for me.

Regarding gmer, I tried to do the last steps in your description–the cmd command. I tried net stop gmer and stop gmer. Neither one was accepted. How do I do it?

Thanks again.
