Hi

Recently my place of work has been victim to the Conficker Worm which I thought we had got rid of. So I decided to charge my iPod there. Today I plugged my iPod into my personal Laptop and was greeted with this:

  • Should I delete the worm in Quarantine?
  • Is my computer clean?
  • Should I reset my iPod?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

manicd,

That may not actually be conflicker.

Please go to http://virusscan.jotti.org , click on Browse, and upload the following file for analysis:

F:\Autorun.inf<===this file

Then click Submit. Allow the file to be scanned, and then please copy and paste the results here for me to see.
Hello again Tom

F:\Autorun.inf<===this file

I can’t find the .inf now as I’ve deleted from ESET's Quarantine and reformatted my iPod which the detection came from.
I got this pop up today browsing a well known internet site that "satirizes current events and themes, especially those related to or relevant to internet culture".
I’ve uploaded a screen shot but blanked out the offensive content that is contained in the http address.
Sorry to be a nuisance, I’ve checked over the log myself and it appears to be clean.
manicd,

Not a problem. Let's get a double check with Kaspersky.

Please go to Kaspersky website and perform an online antivirus scan.

  • Read through the requirements and privacy statement and click on Accept button.
  • It will start downloading and installing the scanner and virus definitions. You will be prompted to install an application from Kaspersky. Click Run.
  • When the downloads have finished, click on Settings.
  • Make sure these boxes are checked (ticked). If they are not, please tick them and click on the Save button:
    • Spyware, Adware, Dialers, and other potentially dangerous programs
      Archives
      Mail databases
  • Click on My Computer under Scan.
  • Once the scan is complete, it will display the results. Click on View Scan Report.
  • You will see a list of infected items there. Click on Save Report As….
  • Save this report to a convenient place. Change the Files of type to Text file (.txt) before clicking on the Save button.
  • Please post this log in your next reply.
Sorry for the late response I appear to be clean.

manicd,

You need to create a new Clean restore point:

  • Download SysRestorePoint to your desktop and unzip it to it's own folder.
  • Double click SysRestorePoint.exe so that we can make a new system restore point.
  • A box will pop up after it has made a new point, usually after a few seconds. Close that window and exit the program.
Remove all previous Restore Points
Click Start Menu > Run > copy and paste

cleanmgr

You may be asked to choose drive. Choose C: At top, click on More Options tab. Click Clean up… button in the System Restore box. Click on Yes button. When finished, click on Cancel button to exit.

Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Check "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, Uncheck "Show hidden files and folders."
Check "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.

The following is my standard advice for the future. Use what you can and pat yourself on the back for what you're already doing.

Please take time to read Preventing Malware - Tools and Practices for Safe Computing. Very important information for your consideration is contained therein.

I would also suggest you read this:
So how did I get infected in the first place?
