Hi

I have trojans on my pc. :(
Avira keeps informing me about every 5 minutes that the Inject.IA.35 and Crypt.XDR.Gen trojans are on my pc in various files in the system32/drivers and the temp directories.
I have tried to remove by running full system scan of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, SUPERAntiSpyware Free Edition, Avira AntiVir and Spybot - Search & Destroy in safe mode, but every time I restart in normal they resurrect.

I have also Mihalffy Attila.exe in the documents folder (that is my real and user name too) which is running all the time.

Here is the hijack log:

Hi mernokur,

:welcome:

My name is Tomk. I would be glad to take a look at your log and help you with solving any malware problems. HijackThis logs can take a while to research, so please be patient and I'd be grateful if you would note the following:

  • I will be working on your Malware issues, this may or may not, solve other issues you have with your machine.
  • The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for the issues on this machine.
  • Please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine appears to be clear. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.
  • It's often worth reading through these instructions and printing them for ease of reference.
  • If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to say or ask!! It's better to be sure and safe than sorry.
  • Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.

Please go to Kaspersky website and perform an online antivirus scan.

  • Read through the requirements and privacy statement and click on Accept button.
  • It will start downloading and installing the scanner and virus definitions. You will be prompted to install an application from Kaspersky. Click Run.
  • When the downloads have finished, click on Settings.
  • Make sure these boxes are checked (ticked). If they are not, please tick them and click on the Save button:
    • Spyware, Adware, Dialers, and other potentially dangerous programs
      Archives
      Mail databases
  • Click on My Computer under Scan.
  • Once the scan is complete, it will display the results. Click on View Scan Report.
  • You will see a list of infected items there. Click on Save Report As….
  • Save this report to a convenient place. Change the Files of type to Text file (.txt) before clicking on the Save button.
  • Please post this log in your next reply.
Hi Tomk! Some days after my original post a new Avira update was available which found some more trojans (TR/Drop.Agent.qkm), but also was capable to remove them, or at least there was no more notification. Anyway, i am not sure that my pc is clean, so i ran the kaspersky scan (avira disabled). Here is the kaspresky log: ——————————————————————————– KASPERSKY ONLINE SCANNER 7 REPORT Friday, April 10, 2009 Operating System: Microsoft Windows XP Professional Szervizcsomag 3 (build 2600) Kaspersky Online Scanner 7 version: 7.0.25.0 Program database last update: Friday, April 10, 2009 08:19:54 Records in database: 2030635 ——————————————————————————– Scan settings: Scan using the following database: extended Scan archives: yes Scan mail databases: yes Scan area - My Computer: C:\ D:\ E:\ F:\ G:\ H:\ I:\ J:\ Scan statistics: Files scanned: 353734 Threat name: 2 Infected objects: 2 Suspicious objects: 2 Duration of the scan: 04:37:12 File name / Threat name / Threats count C:\Documents and Settings\Mihálffy Attila\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\Outlook.pst Suspicious: Trojan-Spy.HTML.Fraud.gen 2 C:\Program Files\RealVNC\VNC4\vncconfig.exe Infected: not-a-virus:RemoteAdmin.Win32.WinVNC.ad 1 C:\Program Files\RealVNC\VNC4\winvnc4.exe Infected: not-a-virus:RemoteAdmin.Win32.WinVNC.ad 1 The selected area was scanned. My questions: How can i be sure that my pc is clean? Should i scan with avira, mbam, spybot S&D, Superantispyware? Or all of them? Which software do you recommend to use? Thanks for the help! mernokur
mernokur,

You've got some emails in your Microsoft outlook that may be contaminated. Please delete all of the emails that you don't want or need. It is most likely that any source of infection will be either an attachment or a link. Therefore, don't open any attachments or click on any links that you don't recognize. :)

I believe that all of the programs you mention will play nice together. I don't see anything wrong with your selections. The links at the end of this post will give you more information but the actual security programs you use are a matter of personal preference. All the programs in the links are "good" programs. Some people prefer one over another for various reasons. It's more important that you have one of each type than it is that you have a specific "brand".

Log looks good :D

You need to create a new Clean restore point:

  • Download SysRestorePoint to your desktop and unzip it to it's own folder.
  • Double click SysRestorePoint.exe so that we can make a new system restore point.
  • A box will pop up after it has made a new point, usually after a few seconds. Close that window and exit the program.
Remove all previous Restore Points
Click Start Menu > Run > copy and paste

cleanmgr

At top, click on More Options tab. Click Clean up… button in the System Restore box. Click on Yes button. When finished, click on Cancel button to exit.

Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Check "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, Uncheck "Show hidden files and folders."
Check "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.

The following is my standard advice for the future. Use what you can and pat yourself on the back for what you're already doing.

Please take time to read Preventing Malware - Tools and Practices for Safe Computing. Very important information for your consideration is contained therein.

I would also suggest you read this:
So how did I get infected in the first place?
by Tony Klein

Also: "How to prevent malware"
by miekiemoes

Please respond back that you understand the above and let me know if you have any questions. Otherwise, this thread will be closed Resolved.
Tomk, I made a clean restore point. Why do you recommend to i) Check "Hide file extensions for known file types." ii) Check "Hide protected operating system files." It annoys me if I cant see the extension. Does it have any effect on getting or staying infected? Or is it just for basic safety? Avira says their software protects against viruses, worms, Trojans, phising and spyware. Do mbam or superAntispyware mean better protection? I read the linked articles you've sent. They and you also suggest to "have one of each type" of software. But what are the types? antivirus + antispyware + antimalware? What is the difference between malware and spyware anyway? I didnt cared about these things as I didnt get infected before… Many thanks mernokur
Very important! I forgot to mention that when I restart windows my windows firewall turns off. I turn it on, but with the next restart it turns off again. Any idea? m
mernokur,

One of each is:
  • Anti-Virus
  • Anti-Spyware
  • Firewall

Antimalware is sort of an all encompassing term. From there things get pretty muddy.

You've got Avira for your anti-virus
Superanitspyware for your Anti-Spyware
Mbam kind of overlaps onto both of them but doesn't contain a real-time component so it doesn't interfere. It makes an excellent "every now and then" scanner.

I don't know why you are having trouble with windows firewall but I suggest that you seriously consider adding a third party firewall from the link I sent you to.

Why do you recommend to i) Check "Hide file extensions for known file types." ii) Check "Hide protected operating system files."
It annoys me if I cant see the extension. Does it have any effect on getting or staying infected? Or is it just for basic safety?

It's just basic safety. It's your computer. Set it up the way it works for you. ;)
