I have a major problem

Problems include:

IE freezes as soon as it opens(Firefox is fine)

Running rather slow

Dialog boxes popping up asking me if i want to delete items i never even clicked on(IE,Firefox,Hijack This log I just saved, etc)

Cant copy HJT log to give you because it starts erasing all the info when i click on it to Select All?? Its doing it now when I just tried to go back up to a sentence to fix it.

Getting this when computer is starting up ERROR 0210: Stuck key 53
Press to Set up
I just hit escape to continue start

EDIT:

I had to go in safe mode to be able to run and save this HJT log in Word to copy & paste

What is wrong?
What can I do?

Please help
Thank you very much
Hello and Welcome to the forum.

Looks like you're running 2 anti-virus programs.

Never install more than one Antivirus and Firewall! Rather than giving you extra protection, it will decrease the reliability of it seriously!
The reason for this is that if both products have their automatic (Real-Time) protection switched on, your system may lock up due to both software products attempting to access the same file at the same time.
Also because more than one Antivirus and Firewall installed are not compatible with each other, it can cause system performance problems and a serious system slowdown.

Please do not delete anything unless instructed to.

1.Click Start > Settings > Control Panel.
2.Next, open Add/Remove Programs and remove either:
McAfee or Symantec

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
Download - ATF Cleaner»
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

(If you use FireFox or the Opera browser
To keep saved passwords, click No at the prompt.)

It's normal after running ATF cleaner that the PC will be slower to boot the first time or two.

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
Download ComboFix from one of these locations:

Link 1
Link 2
Link 3

* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

  • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. Note: If you are having difficulty properly disabling your protective programs, or are unsure as to what programs need to be disabled, please refer to the information available through this link : Protective Programs

  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.

Note: Combofix will run without the Recovery Console installed.

  • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.

  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.

**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

[external image: Posted Image]

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.
"copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread as well.

Notes:

1.Do not mouse-click Combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
2. ComboFix may reset a number of Internet Explorer's settings, including making I-E the default browser.
3. Combofix prevents autorun of ALL CD, floppy and USB devices to assist with malware removal & increase security. If this is an issue or makes it difficult for you – please tell your helper.
4. CF disconnects your machine from the internet. The connection is automatically restored before CF completes its run. If CF runs into difficulty and terminates prematurely, the connection can be manually restored by restarting your machine.

Give it atleast 20-30 minutes to finish if needed.

Please don't attach the scans / logs, use "copy/paste".

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
Saturday I tried to unistall Norton again then my computer started acting weird. Well I have lost internet access from home. When I tried to get on kept getting Page can not be displayed(in both IE and FF)..well it is not my ISP. I was on the phone with their Tech Support for over a hour Monday. Connections are fine. It is something in my Computer. I did the Network Diagnostic in IE and it says it can not connect to HTTP, HTTPS, or FTP and tells me to check the ports that it may be a firewall setting. ??? Also now when click on any item in the start menu a Norton installation pops up and starts. Then Mcafee sees it as something bad and blocks it. Says GENERIC PUP. I am going to save Combofix to a flash drive and take it home to install on my computer(printed your directions out to take home). I will run HJT after I use and post it tomorrow from work. Any ideas what wrong now? :pullhair: Thank you very much for your help.
So I did all of that and nothing worked. I took it back to where I got it from and they restored it somehow(i tried system restore and it didnt work for me) to the way it was when i received it. It runs good now. Fast….but NORTON is on it. I dont want it I rather use Mcafee. How can I get rid of Norton safely without my computer flipping out again? Thank you for all your help
To completely uninstall Symantec AntiVirus?
Problem: The solution to many problems with Symantec AntiVirus is to completely uninstall Symantec AntiVirus, then re-install. You can use these instructions to completely uninstall Symantec AntiVirus.

Solution: In order to completely uninstall Symantec AntiVirus and all related components you need to follow these instructions.
Note: This procedure will remove all Symantec products, not just Symantec AntiVirus.

1.Click on Start | Settings | Control Panel
2.In the control panel double-click on Add / Remove Programs
3.Look through the list of installed programs for any item that says either "Norton" or "Symantec" or "LiveUpdate". (for example "Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition" or "Norton AntiVirus 2000")
4.For each "Norton", "Symantec", or "LiveUpdate" item, select the item and click Add / Remove. Follow the instructions, and click Yes or Yes to all when prompted.
When you are done there should be no items in the list that say "Norton", "Symantec", or "LiveUpdate".
5.Click OK to close the Add / Remove Programs window.
6.Reboot your computer if it hasn't already automatically rebooted.
7.Delete the c:\Program Files\Symantec AntiVirus (or c:\Program Files\Norton) folder.
8.Delete the c:\Program Files\Symantec folder.
9.Delete the c:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared folder.

If uninstalling Symantec AntiVirus using Add / Remove Programs does not work, you can use the directions on this Symantec website to manually remove all elements of Symantec Antivirus from your computer.
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgen…005033108162039
DownLoad for your version of Windows & save to your desktop as it says)
Click on Norton Removal Tool and follow the instructions.
