[Resolved] TR/Crypt.xpack.gen stubborn infection (plus others)

Question…..are you running Google Chrome?

Not sure why that entry keeps re-spawning. Could be TeaTimer bringing it back. Or something more serious. Let's try this….

Disabling Spybot Teatimer v1.5

  • If you have version 1.5, right click the Spybot Icon in the system tray near the clock (looks like a blue/white calendar with a padlock symbol).
  • Click once on Resident Protection, then right click the Spybot icon again and make sure Resident Protection is now Unchecked. The Spybot icon in the System tray should now be now colorless.
  • Go to Start > All Programs > Spybot - Search & Destroy > Spybot Search & Destroy.
  • Click on Mode > Advanced Mode. When it prompts you, click Yes.
  • On the left hand side, click on Tools.
  • Check (tick) this box if it is not yet ticked: Resident.
  • You will notice that Resident is now added under Tools. Click on Resident.
  • Uncheck (untick) this box: Resident "TeaTimer" (Protection of over-all system settings) active.
  • Exit Spybot Search & Destroy.
  • Restart your computer for the changes to take effect.

Run HijackThis. (Vista users, please right click on HijackThis.exe and select "Run as an Administrator")
Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a Check in the box on the left side on these:

Then close all windows except HijackThis and press Fix checked.

Download Rooter.exe to your desktop
  • Then doubleclick it to start the tool
  • A Notepad file containing the report will open, also found at %systemdrive%\Rooter.txt (Where %systemdrive% is usually C: or the drive that you have installed Windows). Post that in your next reply.

Not Google Chrome yet.
I don't see the Rpojumuhifo file. Did we get it? If so, what is the tea timer problem? Or is there one?

If so, what is the tea timer problem? Or is there one?

TeaTimer may have been blocking the fix.

Run MalwareBytes' again, and post the log.

I'd like for you to run this next online scan to check for remnants or anything that might be hidden.
The below scan can take up to an hour or longer, please be patient.

*Note
It is recommended to disable onboard antivirus program and antispyware programs while performing scans so no conflicts and to speed up scan time.
Please don't go surfing while your resident protection is disabled!
Once scan is finished remember to re-enable resident antivirus protection along with whatever antispyware app you use.


Please do a scan with Kaspersky Online Scanner or from here
http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner

Note: If you are using Windows Vista, open your browser by right-clicking on its icon and select 'Run as administrator' to perform this scan.

  • Click on the Accept button and install any components it needs.
  • The program will install and then begin downloading the latest definition
    files.
  • After the files have been downloaded on the left side of the page in the Scan section select My Computer.
  • This will start the program and scan your system.
  • The scan will take a while, so be patient and let it run. (At times it may appear to stall)
    * Once the update is complete, click on My Computer under the green Scan bar to the left to start the scan.
    * Once the scan is complete, it will display if your system has been infected. It does not provide an option to clean/disinfect. We only require a report from it.
    * Do NOT be alarmed by what you see in the report. Many of the finds have likely been quarantined.
  • Once the scan is complete, click on View scan report To obtain the report:
Click on: Save Report As
Next, in the Save as prompt, Save in area, select: Desktop

Oops. I keep forgetting that part, don't I. It seems to be running good. I haven't been on the internet, except for this forum, today. No redirects lately and it doesn't seem like dial-up. Delete all of the HJR, combofix, etc? Thank you for your help! Tamara

A couple stranded items we can remove with HJT.

Make sure Tea Timer is still disabled, then…..

Run HijackThis. (Vista users, please right click on HijackThis.exe and select "Run as an Administrator")
Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a Check in the box on the left side on these:

Oh no. Rpojumuhifo is back. Spybot didn't delete the "no name" files either.

When did you re-enable Tea Timer? What do you mean by Spybot didn't delete the entries?

Let's do this. Disable Tea Timer again.

Run HijackThis. (Vista users, please right click on HijackThis.exe and select "Run as an Administrator")
Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a Check in the box on the left side on these:

Hi,
Tea-Timer was re-enabled after "Fix checked" in HJT (sorry, not Spybot) and before reboot. After reboot, I did get an "error loading" the Rpojumuhifo file at boot.

After reboot, I did get an "error loading" the Rpojumuhifo file at boot

That's because there is no file. Just the registry entry trying to load the missing file.

Looks like they are gone now. Re-enable Tea Timer. Don't let it set those entries back. If it complains that changes were made just allow them, because we made them.

Reboot and see if they stay away.

I re-enabled Tea Timer but it brings everything back. I don't know what you mean to not let Tea Timer set them back. It doesn't ask me if I want to block anything. Is is possible to delete these directly from the registry? Is there some other program pulling them back?

Hmm? Maybe SUPERAntiSpyware? Disable it and Tea Timer, reboot a couple times and see if they come back. Need to fix them first of course…. :) Do that as advised earlier.
