Hi Demented Dolly,

We can clean up the tools and I'll see if I can find something on completely removing Stop Sign. Hold off on installing a 3rd prty firewall untill Stop Sign is completely removed.

This is all I see in add/remove related to Stop Sign

eAcceleration - StopSign Popup Blocker
StopSign Internet Security

[my MBAM is purchased.

You made a good investment in MBAM.

From your desktop delete
  • any notepads/logs that were created
  • DDS.scr

Click the Start button, click Run. Copy and paste the following line into the run box and click OK
Combofix /u

Open OTMoveIt3 then click the Clean Up button. You may get prompted by your firewall that OTMoveIt wants to contact the internet - allow this. A cleanup.txt will be downloaded, a message dialog will ask you if you want to proceed with the cleanup process, click Yes. This will do some clean up tasks and delete some of the tools you have downloaded plus itself.

Keep MBAM updated and use on a regular basis.

Some Recommendations and prevention tips

Basic security consists of 1 antivirus program, 1 resident antispyware program, 1 on demand antispyware program and a firewall. You have an antvirus program and MBAM.

You should also use Spyware Blaster to help immunize your computer.

- SpywareBlaster will add a large list of programs and sites into your Internet Explorer
settings that will protect you from running and downloading known malicious programs.

OR

A guide to understanding and using the hosts file.

Learn how your Hosts file can protect you and how you can protect it.
Besides the Hosts file information, there are links to a very good updated hosts file, a host file manager. and some programs that can protect your hosts file.
HOSTS

Please read the info on disabling the DNS Client before installing a custom hosts file.

* If you are behind a router Windows firewall should be fine. Otherwise a 3rd party firewall with outbound monitoring is recommended.

Click FIREWALL for tips, reviews and links to good, free and paid for firewalls. (Note: Zone Alarm is becoming bloatware)

-Secure your Internet Explorer

From within Internet Explorer click on the Tools menu and then click on Options.
  • Click once on the Security tab
  • Click once on the Internet icon so it becomes highlighted.
  • Click once on the Custom Level button.
  • Change the Download signed ActiveX controls to Prompt
  • Change the Download unsigned ActiveX controls to Disable
  • Change the Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe to Disable
  • Change the Installation of desktop items to Prompt
  • Change the Launching programs and files in an IFRAME to Prompt
  • Change the Navigate sub-frames across different domains to Prompt
  • When all these settings have been made, click on the OK button.
  • If it prompts you as to whether or not you want to save the settings, press the Yes button.
Next press the Apply button and then the OK to exit the Internet Properties page.

- Ensure that Automatic Update is turned on so you get all the latest patches.
Click start, control panel, click Security Center.

- Keep your antivirus program updated, as well as any other security programs you have.

Post back when you are finished and we'll see what we can do about Stop Sign

Thanks
Hi Demented Dolly,

There doesn't seem to be any special tools for Stop Sign removal.

Make sure these are uninstalled

eAcceleration - StopSign Popup Blocker
StopSign Internet Security

Open hijackthis, do a system scan only and checkmark these lines, if present

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [webscan] "C:\Program Files\Acceleration Software\Anti-Virus\stopsignav.exe" -k
O23 - Service: eAcceleration Notification Service (eac_notifysvc) - eAcceleration Corp - C:\PROGRA~1\EACCEL~1\FRAMEW~1\eac_svc.exe
O23 - Service: eAcceleration Product Manager Service (eac_productsvc) - eAcceleration Corp - C:\PROGRA~1\EACCEL~1\FRAMEW~1\eac_productsvc.exe

Close ALL other windows/browsers and click Fix Checked. Answer Yes if prompted. Close HJT.

You can use OTMoveIt3 to remove the services if you wish.

:Processes
explorer.exe

:Services
eac_productsvc
eac_notifysvc

:Reg

:Files
C:\Program Files\eAcceleration
C:\Program Files\Acceleration Software

:Commands
[emptytemp]
[start explorer]
[Reboot]

After the reboot, obtain a new HJT log. Let me know how it goes.
ok i got stopsign totally uninstalled.

I have installed spyware buster and zonealarm as suggested.

However; with zonealarm on it wont let me bring up a webpage at all. I had to turn it off totally to send you this.

I did all the cleanups you asked and of course listed the new HJT scan below as you requested. Please notice that none of the things that you wanted me to scan for are there anymore. I didnt have to check them at all as they were not listed.

*********Click the Start button, click Run. Copy and paste the following line into the run box and click OK
Combofix /u

I did this but it tells me that windows can't find it and/or I must of typed the name wrong to check it and try again.

*********(Note: Zone Alarm is becoming bloatware)

I have no clue what bloatware is, could you please elaborate?

I have updated all of my software that I know of that I can. I have used your guide to setting up my security settings on my IE7 browser. Im usuing firefox mostly. Could you tell me what the difference is? Is one better than the other as far as security is concerned? Should I use IE?

Hi Demented Dolly,

That combofix /u was for a program we didn't use., so no problem there.

Zone Alarm-any program that you want to allow access to the internet must have premission in zone alarm.

Open Zone Alarm and go to program control. Locate firefox and check Trusted and Internet. This will allow Firefox to access the internet and not ask you each time. If you don't check the trusted it will ask each time you go on line. Do the same for each program you use online. Internet Explorer, Outlook Express for example. When a new program tries to access the internet, ZA will ask you. You can set the premissions at that time. Just read the little popup messagesto see what the program is. There usually isn't anything on a home pc that needs server rights so you can leave them as is.

Here's some screenshots, I don't think ZA has changes a whole lot so these should be similar to yours.

As far as bloatware, it's only my opinion, but they seem to be adding more to it to try and entice you into buying the Pro version.

FF is a very good browser. It doesn't have the vulneralities that IE has,…yet. It is becoming a target for malware authors, but the developers seem to keeping up with patches. So if you like FF, by all means keep using it. Keep IE updated as there are times when you will need i. Visiting windows Upadtes, most on line scans will only work with IE.

If you're not clear on this or I've only confuse you more, post back and I'll clarify.

Thanks
