Hi ed-e-dee,

I was looking for pest programs, which you seem to be free of. The security updates should be left alone as they are critical for a securer computer.

We are finished with Eset online scanner and you can uninstall if you wish.

You can go to add remove programs and uninstall these programs, the 2 old versions of Java must be uninstalled

ESET Online Scanner v3
Java™ 6 Update 6
Java™ 6 Update 7

Do Not uninstall Java™ 6 Update 13

Post back when you are done and answer this question.

Did you uninstall a program called Trust Defender?

Thanks
Hi oldman. I think I removed Trust Defender, I think I have removed all security programs and now only have 2 new ones . removed Java 6 & 7 only, and Eset.
Hi ed-e-dee,

Okay, I was just checking to make sure.

We'll remove the left over folder and a tool that should not be on your computer. Make certain you click YES when this next tool prompts you for a reboot. You will be able to get the log after the reboot.

Please download the OTMoveIt3 by OldTimer.
  • Save it to your desktop.
  • Please double-click OTMoveIt3.exe to run it.
  • Copy the lines in the codebox below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy):

Do Not copy the word CODE note the fix starts with the :
    :Processes
    explorer.exe

    :Reg

    C:\unzipped\SmitfraudFix

    :Commands
    [Purity]
    [emptytemp]
    [start explorer]
    [Reboot]
  • Return to OTMoveIt3, right click in the "Paste Instructions for Items to be Moved" window (under the yellow bar) and choose Paste.
  • Click the red Moveit! button.
  • Copy everything in the Results window (under the green bar) to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy), and paste it in your next reply.
  • Close OTMoveIt3
Note: If a file or folder cannot be moved immediately you may be asked to reboot the machine to finish the move process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes. In this case, after the reboot, open Notepad (Start->All Programs->Accessories->Notepad), click File->Open, in the File Name box enter *.log and press the Enter key, navigate to the C:\_OTMoveIt\MovedFiles folder, and open the newest .log file present, and copy/paste the contents of that document back here in your next post.

Thanks

Hi ed-e-dee,

Good job.

Your computer appears to be clean. All I can do is offer some optional fixes. You do not have to impliment any of these fixes. If you do decide to impliment some of these fixes and are not 100% certain as to what they are, STOP and ASK.

Here are some optional fixes that you can try. These fixes will not remove the program from the computer, but will stop them from starting at bootup. This may help with overall prefromance. I've included a link with each that has a bit of info as to what it is and in some case an alternative method of running the program..

To implement the fixes you want, open HJT, do a system scan only. Check mark the lines in the following list you wish to fix, close all other browsers/windows and click "fix checked" Do not fix any lines that are not in the list.

since this last hjt. I have been having connection problems, the internet light on the modem has been flashing yellow, the web pages have been very slow to change, wondering if my phone lines could be a problem intermitely we have had a lot of flooding in my area I have been flooded twice in three months surley this would have some effect on the lines in the pits, although my ISP recends line and speed are ok. All this is just another thought, unless the computer is having a slow granddad day ( slow ) LOL.
Hi ed-e-dee,

Well I'm I sorry we couldn't find anything either. The fixes you did were not Internet related, they did use the Internet but nothing to do with your connection. I'm inclined to lean towards ISP, but Jephree may have other thoughts on this. I suggest you go back to that thread, he seems to have some ideas he'd like to explore.

I can relate to your frustraion as it's just been a few months since I won the battle of wills with my ISP (8 months of lousy internet and phone problems). All problems have been fixed though they still would not admit to the problem being on their end.

Your programs and security programs seem to be in order and current. Normally I would suggest a couple of additions but would like to see the problems resolved, if possible, before adding something else to the mix.

I'll give an abreviated speech and let you continue with Jephree.

From your desktop, please delete
  • any notepads/logs that we created

Open OTMoveIt2 then click the Clean Up button. You may get prompted by your firewall that OTMoveIt wants to contact the internet - allow this. A cleanup.txt will be downloaded, a message dialog will ask you if you want to proceed with the cleanup process, click Yes. This will do some clean up tasks and delete some of the tools you have downloaded plus itself.

Updates and upgrades

* If you are running Microsoft Office, or any portion thereof, go to the Microsoft's Office Update site and make sure you have at least all the cirtical updates installed (Free) Microsoft Office Update

Some Recommendations and prevention tips

Hi old mate. I'm having trouble with ActiveX in Microsoft Office Update,I click on run and it will start then goes back to the line under the toolbar , a little time during the day I received an error SKUO11.CAB.would this stop Office updates not downloading. I did a Google but was not sure what to use, I don't have a CD as everything was preloaded. I did all those things in IE security. One other thing I have forgotten about ,,,,when I had my ISP checking the line they asked to remove all Filters , do I need to put them back on ?.
Hi oldman960. OK.thank you for your time and patience , these things must be so frustrating especially when you have to deal with someone who is as raw as I am. Thank you once again. Ed.
Hi ed-e-dee The only frustration here is that I was unable to resolve your problem. I was my pleasure assisting you. I will follow your other thread and see where it goes. Good luck and I wish you well. oldman960
