Hi oldman I did'nt see a list of tools, matter of fact did'nt see anything OTC worked very fast in notime it eas rebooting is this what it was supposed to do in your last mail you have a quote included How do you do that.
Hi ed-e-dee,

It seemed to have worked like it was supposed to. It is quick and if it asked for a reboot then it was done. :)

To add a quote, click the quote button 📎quote.PNG ,
you will see

appear in the reply box. Then put whatever you want between

For example
in your last mail you have a quote included How do you do that.
When you post your reply it would look like

in your last mail you have a quote included How do you do that.

You won't get a codebox, I had to use one to show you what text would appear in the reply box.

Hi ed-e-dee,

To pick up where we left off, we were trying to get an online scan done.

I'd like you to try Kaspersky again. It usually installs easily. If it gives you any problems at all, such as wanting you to update your java, STOP. Post back here before you make any changes, no point in getting all muddled up again.

Preliminary instructions

Just take your time and do it one step at a time. One thing that I have noticed, when you arrive at the Kaspersky site, it will try to determine the browser version and Java version. Your browser may stop responding for a second or 2. Don't worry. If you have any problems or don't understand something, post back, I will be more than happy to clarify or answer your questions.

Right click this LINK and select Open in NewTab You will now have 2 tabs you can switch back and for to so you can refer to the instructions on this page while you are setting up the scan on the second tab.

In the upper left hand corner of the screen will be a Information box. It will detail your OS, your browser and your java version. It will also tell you if you meet the requirements. If you do then continue. If it says you Do Not meet the requirement, please stop and post back for further instructions.
📎kas.PNG

Assuming you have no problems up to this point, disable AVG by

AVG
Please open the AVG Control Center program -> double-click on the "AVG Resident Shield" component (looks like this: [external image: Posted Image]) -> deselect the "Turn on AVG Resident Shield" checkmark and save the setting.
When you need to enable the AVG Resident Shield, ( after the scan has finished) just open the AVG Control Center program -> double-click on the "AVG Resident Shield" component -> select the "Turn on AVG Resident Shield" checkmark and save the setting.

Scoll your browser down a wee bit and you will see a button called Accept,
📎kas1.PNG

  • Click the Accept button
  • It will start downloading and installing the scanner and virus definitions.
  • You will be prompted to install an application from Kaspersky. Click Run.
  • When the downloads have finished,(be patient it may take awhile, you will be notified) click on Settings.
  • Make sure these boxes are checked (ticked). If they are not, please tick them and click on the Save button
    • Spyware, Adware, Dialers, and other potentially dangerous programs
    • Archives
    • Mail databases
  • Click on My Computerr under Scan.
  • Once the scan is complete, it will display the results. Click on View Scan Report.
  • You will see a list of infected items there. Click on Save Report As….
  • Change the Files of type to Text file (.txt)
  • Set the Save In to Desktop
  • click the Save button.
  • Please post this log in your next reply along with a new HijackThis log.
Hi ed-e-dee,

Kaspersky can be persnickity at times. We'll use a different one.

Same thing, any problems, stop and come back here. Take your time, one step at a time.

Again, use the right click and "Open in New Tab" so you have access to these instructions while setting up the scan.

(Note: You must use Internet Explorer for this scan.)

Go here to run an online scannner from
ESET:

  • Scroll down
    📎eset.PNG
  • Tick the box next to YES, I accept the Terms of Use.
  • Click Start
  • When asked, allow the activex control to install
  • Wait for it to finish
  • Disable your Antivirus software. You can usually do this with its Notfication Tray icon near the clock
    AVG
Please open the AVG Control Center program -> double-click on the "AVG Resident Shield" component (looks like this: [external image: Posted Image]) -> deselect the "Turn on AVG Resident Shield" checkmark and save the setting.
  • Set up the scan by Clicking Start
  • Make sure that the option "Remove found threats" is Unchecked, and the option "Scan unwanted applications" is Checked.
  • Click Scan.
  • Wait for the scan to finish.
  • Re-enable your Antivirus software after the scan has completed.
When you need to enable the AVG Resident Shield, ( after the scan has finished) just open the AVG Control Center program -> double-click on the "AVG Resident Shield" component -> select the "Turn on AVG Resident Shield" checkmark and save the setting.
  • A logfile is created and located at C:\Program Files\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt. We will need this later.
Please post back with the ESET log and a new HJT log.

Thanks
[ :wavey: Hi oldman960.

Had to do a roundabout to get ESET to work so I hope it's ok.

I noticed that I have a number of running processes —that are the same ie:- svchost.exe.—-ati hydravision,,,,,,are they duplicated can I get rid of them.
Hi ed-e-dee,

Goog job.

ATI HYDRAVISION- is software for ATI video cards which helps to manage a multi-monitor environment

svchost.exe- is a generic process that will be created and used by several programs. Multiple instances are normal. They will all be needed.

The ESET detections are mostly of legitamate programs you have on your computer. You are not infected.

Post an uninstall list and we'll have a look. There may be somethings we can clean up.

Please make an uninstall list
  • Start HijackThis
  • Click the Config button
  • Click the Misc Tools button
  • Click the Open Uninstall Manager button.
  • Click the Save list button and save it to your desktop.
When you press Save, a notepad will open with the contents. Copy/paste the contents of the notepad file in your next reply.

Thanks
