Hi bballfever, No problem, we did find traces of malware. WindowsRecovery Console, Yes it is still installed. What it is, it's a way into your computer should it Windows not start. Some repairs to the system can be made from there. It does not run unless you chose to run it. It should show up as an option for a few seconds during bootup, then windows will start loading. I advise leaving it. #2 That sounds more like a hardware/software issue. I can gladly refer you to a different part of the forum for help with diagnosing those problems. Let me know
Hi, My PC seems to be doing better now (it sounds like a patient). Thanks to your help. It seems to be working well overall. Good job!! #1- However, how do I uninstall the Windows Recovery? I would really like to know, plus I really don't think you explained how it works in the meantime, although I guess I can look it up on the internet. #2- As far as the "hardware/software issue", it sometimes doesn't happen for a long time - month or longer. However, my web browsing happens daily, so obviously your work has been a big help. Yet I also want to try to fix the intermittent problem with starting my PC since I might get left shutout of my PC. Where would I need to go to address this problem in which forum specifically or where? Thanks a lot!!!
Hi bballfever,

Think of the Recovery Console as a program you can use to gain access to your computer if windows will not start. From within this program you can do some repairs such as file replacement, start/stop drivers, etc.

You do express a concern that you feel Windows may not start one day. That is where this utility comes in. It gives you the opprotunity to try to fix the problem.

It can be removed, but caution must be taken when removing it. This link has all you want to know about the Recovery Console including removing it.

We'll clean up our tools and I'll give you a couple of links to other parts of the forum to deal with your other issues.

From your desktop, please delete
  • any notepads/logs that we created

  • Download OTCleanIt to your desktop
  • Doble click it to run it
  • A list of tool components used in the Cleanup of malware will be downloaded.
  • If your Firewall or Real Time protection attempts to block OTCleanUp to reach the Internet, please allow the application to do so.
  • Click Yes to beging the Cleanup process and remove these components, including this application.
  • You will be asked to reboot the machine to finish the Cleanup process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes.

This will do some clean up tasks and delete some of the tools you have downloaded plus itself. OtCleanit will also be removed.

I suggest you keep MBAM. Keep MBAM updated and use it regularly.

Some Recommendations and prevention tips

Basic security consists of 1 antivirus program, 1 resident antispyware program, 1 on demand antispyware program and a firewall. All you have is MBAM an on demand scanner.

I suggest that you install an anti virus program as soon as possible and get at least the basics.

Antispyware programs with resident (real time) scanning. I suggest

Winpatrol
OR
Windows Defender

You should also use Spyware Blaster to help immunize your computer.

- SpywareBlaster will add a large list of programs and sites into your Internet Explorer
settings that will protect you from running and downloading known malicious programs.
