[Closed] TR/ATRAPS Trojan, Malware & Other Issues

First issue: TR/ATRAPS Trojan and Heur/HTML Malware picked up by Avira with increasing frequency. Quarantined and removed TR/ATRAPS from C: by uninstalling unactivated HP Games. However, I'm still trying to remove TR/TRAPS from D:drive backup files. I've never accessed HP Games, so curious how it got there. Ran Ccleaner, Disk Cleanup, MBAM (no alerts), SUPERAntiSpyware (no alerts), and Secunia PSI (programs current). HijackThis! and Avira scans are posted below.

Second issue: I"m denied access to remove two damaged ActiveX Controls in Downloaded Program Files, although I'm administrator. Macromedia Flash and ESET online scan were uninstalled several months ago, but ESET's http: is accessed almost daily.

Third issue: Avira is unable to scan several HP files, a concern since the trojan appeared in HP Games. The extended Avira scan shows more detail than the one below, but is much larger, so please advise if the extended version is needed.

Thank you for your help.

Hi Yenni,

:welcome:

My name is Tomk. I would be glad to take a look at your log and help you with solving any malware problems. HijackThis logs can take a while to research, so please be patient and I'd be grateful if you would note the following:

  • I will be working on your Malware issues, this may or may not, solve other issues you have with your machine.
  • The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for the issues on this machine.
  • Please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine appears to be clear. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.
  • It's often worth reading through these instructions and printing them for ease of reference.
  • If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to say or ask!! It's better to be sure and safe than sorry.
  • Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
Download - ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

(If you use FireFox or the Opera browser
To keep saved passwords, click No at the prompt.)

It's normal after running ATF cleaner that the PC will be slower to boot the first time or two.

Then

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.

  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location and post the results.
  • Note: If you receive a notice that some of the items couldn't be removed, that they have been added to the delete on reboot list, please reboot (shut down your computer then restart it).
Also "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
Hi Tomk,

I ran ATF Cleaner. Then, uninstalled and reinstalled MBAM from MajorGeeks (can't download anything from CNET's Download.com) and ran quick scan in normal admin mode, followed by HijackThis in safe mode. The inability to download from CNET just started.

During interim since first reported, I managed to remove all HP Games to rid trojan found by Avira, but had to remove all backup files to get clean Avira scan. However, I still can't access or remove two damaged ActiveX controls in Downloaded Program Files. One is item 016 - DPF in the HijackThis log for ESET, an online scanner I ran once in Dec. and uninstalled. Yet, the properties show recent activity as of today. The other ActiveX I can't access or remove is Macromedia…flashplay…Irma.inf, although all programs were uninstalled.

Two other areas of concern in the HijackThis scan are (1) the four "Extra" menu items or buttons in 08 & 09, and (2) the three missing files in 023 - Services for hpqwmiex, Intel® Matrix, and stllssvr. Perhaps you could advise on these and if any other areas look questionable.

Thanks for your help.

Yenni,

Why did you run HijackThis from safemode?

Please do the following from normal mode:

I'm not seeing any malware, the following should remove the un-needed items. The others are legit.

  • Please open HijackThis and run Do a system scan only
  • Check the boxes next to ONLY the entries listed below(if present):
    • O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {85d1f590-48f4-11d9-9669-0800200c9a66} - C:\Windows\bdoscandel.exe (file missing)

      O23 - Service: hpqwmiex - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\Shared\hpqwmiex.exe (file missing)
  • Close all programs except for HijackThis.
  • Click on Fix checked
  • A box will pop up asking you if you wish to fix the selected items. Please choose YES.
  • Once it has fixed them, please exit/close HijackThis.

I don't see Irma.inf anywhere some I guessing that you got that from a Secunia scan maybe?

Typically, I would now ask for an online scanner to verify. In your case, it appears that you've already ran most of them so I don't see the point. Please reboot your system, and then give me a new HijackThis log.
Hi Tomk,

Here's HijackThis after fix. The damaged ActiveX for ESET is now removed from Dowloaded Program Files; however the other one remains for Macromedia (it didn't show up in HijackThis). Is there a program (possibly MBAM's File Assassin?) I could use to remove it? Much thanks for your help.
