Right-o First of its the parents pc.
Its super slow browsing and takes ages to startup. Getting some ccS error at shut down I just remembered about that 1 so I'll post it in the next reply however I did look it up once and it had something to do with Norton A/V. But in the mean time I'm just wondering if someone would be so kind to have a look at this HJT report please sence you guys have been so good in the past,
They also have 2 different Internet connection Icons in the Network Connections folder, When I discovered that Both said they was enabled I disabled &enabled both of'em 1 by 1 and found that 1 dont work but the other does. I have no clue who or how they got that 1. The 1 that dont work is a 1934 Net adpter.
Thanks

Hi shucky,

:welcome:

My name is Tomk. I would be glad to take a look at your log and help you with solving any malware problems. HijackThis logs can take a while to research, so please be patient and I'd be grateful if you would note the following:

  • I will be working on your Malware issues, this may or may not, solve other issues you have with your machine.
  • The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for the issues on this machine.
  • Please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine appears to be clear. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.
  • It's often worth reading through these instructions and printing them for ease of reference.
  • If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to say or ask!! It's better to be sure and safe than sorry.
  • Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.

Don't worry about the 1934 network adapter. That is just your firewire port. It isn't a internet connection (unless you somehow connect to the internet through the firewire port  )

Not alot showing in your log but there is some adware. Let's start this way:

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
Download - ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

(If you use FireFox or the Opera browser
To keep saved passwords, click No at the prompt.)

It's normal after running ATF cleaner that the PC will be slower to boot the first time or two.

Then

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.

  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location and post the results.
  • Note: If you receive a notice that some of the items couldn't be removed, that they have been added to the delete on reboot list, please reboot (shut down your computer then restart it).
Also "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
G'day
The latest HJT log is below. The error I'm seeing during shut down issomething to do with ccSvcHst I cant seem to get the whole error message before it shuts down.

Before I forget. The D drive which worked before a reformatting. somehow has been rendered unusable due to a partition I'm unable to paste or upload a scrn shot of the contents of the D drive. The drive wont even play a cd or nothing even when trying to manually play it.
shucky,

Open Notepad: Start > All Programs > Accessories > Notepad.
Click on Format and ensure that Wordwrap is unchecked. If it isn't, uncheck it.

I'm a little confused. You say you reformatted your D: drive. You also say it "wont even play a cd or nothing". Is this a hard drive or a CD drive?

Please go to Kaspersky website and perform an online antivirus scan.

  • Read through the requirements and privacy statement and click on Accept button.
  • It will start downloading and installing the scanner and virus definitions. You will be prompted to install an application from Kaspersky. Click Run.
  • When the downloads have finished, click on Settings.
  • Make sure these boxes are checked (ticked). If they are not, please tick them and click on the Save button:
    • Spyware, Adware, Dialers, and other potentially dangerous programs
      Archives
      Mail databases
  • Click on My Computer under Scan.
  • Once the scan is complete, it will display the results. Click on View Scan Report.
  • You will see a list of infected items there. Click on Save Report As….
  • Save this report to a convenient place. Change the Files of type to Text file (.txt) before clicking on the Save button.
  • Please post this log in your next reply.

Also please give me a new HijackThis log (now that your word wrap is off  )
G'day Tomk
I've tried running the kaspersky online scanner 3 times, it keeps freezing when it finds a threat/infection
and I get a message at the bottom left corner of the IE which wasn't there when the scan started ( error on page). I have the info when it froze the 2nd & 3 time. which is below.
2nd scaan .. Item scanning acsnet.zip location C:\Porgram files\….da\aol-max\comps\acs Forze at 27 %
3rd scan Item scanning Comp02.000 Location C:\program files\…..vices\Canada\AOL-MAX Froze at 28 %
I didn't think to note the 1st scan. Once it freezes I'm unable to obtain an scan result log. As far as the D drive is concerned, Its a bit hard to explain I have a scrn shot of what it shows when the drive is opened from the My Computer Folder. If theres away I can post it. Be reminded though, The Drive is empty when its acessed. Unable to upload the file here.
I'm posting a new HJT log

When sp 3 came out for winxp the parents had the auto update option turned on and ended up with sp 3 installed at which time stuffed up the whole system. Then came a reformatt during which time Norton 360 was installed and gave a option to backup I'm guessing the registry,I dont know, and I dont know where the backup was saved too. Now I'm told the D drive did work until then. When I open the D drive via my computer folder I get a screen that says Compaq at the top ( Big red letters) Warning This area of your hard drive ( or partition) contains files used for your PC Recovery. Do not delete or alter these files. Any change to this partition could prevent any recovery later. When any disk is incerted into the drive it just won't play it and when you try opening/playing it via the my comp. folder it shows the warning above. Below is the results from ESET. # version=4 # OnlineScanner.ocx=1.0.0.635 # OnlineScannerDLLA.dll=1, 0, 0, 79 # OnlineScannerDLLW.dll=1, 0, 0, 78 # OnlineScannerUninstaller.exe=1, 0, 0, 49 # vers_standard_module=3913 (20090306) # vers_arch_module=1.064 (20080214) # vers_adv_heur_module=1.066 (20070917) # EOSSerial=718fb98663a87b4ab7a408c9f2232bbe # end=finished # remove_checked=false # unwanted_checked=false # utc_time=2009-03-06 05:31:13 # local_time=2009-03-06 12:31:13 (-0500, Eastern Standard Time) # country="United States" # osver=5.1.2600 NT Service Pack 2 # scanned=439673 # found=1 # scan_time=6873 C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Spybot - Search & Destroy\Recovery\eZulaHotText.zip Win32/Bagle.gen.zip worm 528FBE3577D086F36E2BFCCC5AE46F85
shucky,

The first part of your explanation of the problems with your D: drive relate to a hard drive. But then you talk about inserting a disk which sounds like a CD drive. It can't be both. However, this is sounding like a hardware issue. I suggest you post a question to the Tech Team in the hardware forum here. When posting there, please provide a link back to this topic so that they may see the logs that you have already posted.

First though:

You need to create a new Clean restore point.
Click Start Menu > Run > copy and paste

%SystemRoot%\System32\restore\rstrui.exe

Press OK. Choose Create a Restore Point then click Next. Name it (something you'll remember) and click Create, when the confirmation screen shows the restore point has been created click Close.

Remove all previous Restore Points
Click Start Menu > Run > copy and paste

cleanmgr

At top, click on More Options tab. Click Clean up… button in the System Restore box. Click on Yes button. When finished, click on Cancel button to exit.

Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Check "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, Uncheck "Show hidden files and folders."

I would also suggest you read this:
So how did I get infected in the first place?

Also: "How to prevent malware"
