Do you ever wish you could access your files anywhere you went? Don't know what a FTP is? IIS and Apache about as familiar as nano technology? Well in the days of Web 2.0 you only need to know how to access the Internet.

Cloud computing is using the Internet as means to store documents, save bookmarks, chat with friends, use office applications, like word processing, email management, calendar, and more. With the concept of cloud computing you can literally access your files anywhere there is an Internet connection, regardless of browser or operating system.

Windows Live Spaces offers 25 gigs of free online storage space... 25 gigs is a lot of space for those pictures you've been collecting over the years...

Google, Yahoo, and a plethora of others are offering similar services. I would recommend sticking to the more reputable companies.

I realize that space limitations would not make this an end all be all for your computing needs, but definitely an innovative way to compute.

"But what if there isn't any Internet where I am going?"

Well some services offer "offline" storage so you can download your data to your computer and access it without a connection. You will need to refer to the service you want to use to find out if offline service is available.

Some other recommendations:

1) When signing up ALWAYS read the Terms of Service.

2) When signing up ALWAYS read the Terms of Service.

3) Still keep an additional backup of your data somewhere safe and secure. The more the better in my opinion.

4) Use a strong password. Use special characters, letters, and numbers when possible.

Wikipedia has a nice article about Cloud Computing give it a read here.

If you got any questions feel free to ask.
