Hi Topband,

1394 Net Adapter

Is that a firewire connection for a harddrive, camera, etc?

Download WinsockFix from HERE save it to your desktop.

  • Double click winsockfix.exe to run it
  • Click Reg Backup
  • Select a directory to save the registry backup in
  • Make sure all 3 boxes are checked
  • Click OK
  • When it's finished backing up your registry, click Fix
  • Wait for the program to finish,
  • reboot your computer.
Can you connect?

Thanks

Hi Topband,

Let's not replace that old folder yet. Open windows explorer (right click your start button and click explore)

Locate this folder C:\Erdnt, right click it and select rename.

On your keyboard tyype Erdnt1, hit enter.

Now run winsockfix.exe. You shouldn't get that message again.

Hi Topband,

Let's see if the working computer is set up the same. Don't make any changes to this machine.

On the computer that can connect

Click Start > control panel > Network connections
  • Double click on local area connection for whatever the adapter is called
  • Click on the Support tab.
  • Click the Details.... button.
Record all the information and post it

.

Try this on the computer with no connection

  • Go to Start > Control Panel, and choose Network Connections.
  • Right click on your default connection, usually Local Area Connection for cable and DSL and choose Properties.
  • Click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item.
  • Click Properties
    • In the lower box, click the box beside Use the following DNS server addresses
    • In the first box type 208.67.222.222
    • in the second box type 208.67.220.220
