Well that would be why then. :) I was wondering why, when the computer has been sleeping, it takes forever for anything to work, usually up to 30 seconds for anything to respond, ie-working on an already opened window, like refreshing this page, or clicking a link on another page, etc. Once it's up and running it's all good, but for the first 10 minutes or so, yikes! Anyway to make it wake up faster, or become responsive more quickly? Anyway, just thinking of it since I was working on it this morning. Will run your fix, check boot time, get right back to you.

Boot time is averaging the same, the last two times were 1min 15 sec, and 58 sec each. (from when the Windows splash screen goes black, (lighter black-solid black-lighter black), to when personal settings begin to load. Took several minutes for the Add/Remove to load the programs, but when it did, the Ask toolbar was still there. Also, for the second time, (once on different time), when I ran the OTL program, pasted in the fix, and clicked the Run Fix, the program froze after the 'Killing Processes' began, so eventually I just forced quit, ran again, and then it went fine. Probably no problem, just letting you know. Here is the newest fix log: All processes killed ========== REGISTRY ========== Registry value HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\\{86D4B82A-ABED-442A-BE86-96357B70F4FE} not found. Hi,

Take note of your free space left, it doesn't show a lot of room left in your hard drive.

Drive C: | 145.96 Gb Total Space | 17.69 Gb Free Space | 12.12% Space Free | Partition Type: NTFS

You have lots of programs installed in your computer, that is the reason why it took such a long time to load up everything in Add/Remove. I think if you remove a considerable amount of programs in your computer, things should run a lot more better probably including your boot up times.

Windows requires at least 17% to defrag the computer, and in your case you only have 12%.

Run OTL.exe
  • Copy/paste the following text written inside of the code box into the Custom Scans/Fixes box located at the bottom of OTL

    :Reg
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{86D4B82A-ABED-442A-BE86-96357B70F4FE}]

Hi

Conspire is having internet problems at the moments. I will be assisting you until he's back on line.

Try this

Download Revo Uninstaller
  • Double click the installation file on the desktop to run the installer.
  • Let it install to the default location.
  • Double click the new Revo Uninstaller Icon on the desktop to start the program.
You will now see a list of installed programs that Revo Uninstaller can remove.
  • Locate the program you are uninstalling Ask Toolbar
  • Right Click the Icon then choose Uninstall.
  • Click yes to the warning and choose the Uninstall Mode
  • Choose the Advanced option and then click Next.
  • This will launch the programs built in uninstaller. Be patient it can take several seconds.
  • Once the uninstaller is done click Next.
  • Revo Uninstaller will now scan for leftover information. Be patient it can take several seconds.
  • Once this scan is done click Next.
  • You will then be presented of the leftover entries found by Revo Uninstaller
  • Look at ALL of the entries to ensure they relate to the uninstall.
  • Next click Select All > Delete to remove the entries.
  • Click Next.
  • If there are any program file folders left over you will be presented with a list to be removed.
  • Again look at ALL of the entries to ensure they are related to the uninstall.
  • Click Select All > Delete to remove the entries.
  • Click Finish to go back to the uninstall list.
  • Close the program

That seems to have done the trick, thanks! One question, while installing this program, there was a warning message that it may destabilize the operating system either now or in the future. I let in install anyway, but should I now uninstall,or otherwise worry about the warning message?

Hi lthsinc, I think that message refers more to the improper use of the program. It is a very good uninstaller and could be used to uninstall the wrong thing. You can uninstall it if you wish. It can always be reinstalled if you need it. Any other problems? Thanks

I don't think so, once up and running it seems to go along pretty good. Only issue I can think of is that when the machine has been asleep, when first opening it takes forever to get going, about a minute each for any tasks. If there is a way to fix so when you've opened from sleeping, it gets going quicker, that would be great. Doesn't seem to be a problem when rebooting, only when waking up. Otherwise I'll just live with it, because all else seems to be fine. Thank you.

Let's check this settings. Go My Computer -> Right click C drive and select Properties -> Hardware tab -> Choose your hard drive -> Click Properties -> Policies tab -> Ensure that Optimize for performance is selected.

As for the defrag, remember to clear up some space for the hard drive first and then you may refer to the link for a detailed instructions.

In the policies section, there are two items checked: Optimize for performance is checked, but but grayed out; and Enable write chaching on the disk is also check, but not grayed out. Would this be correct? As far a degraging the computer, I can do that through Windows, or I've got other programs to do that, such as System Mechanic 10, Defraggler, Advanced System Care 3, and I believe one or two others I can't think of right now. Which program does the best job?

Defraggler would be good in my opinion. Anymore questions? :)
