OK, That work may have provided a small amount of performance benefit, but may not be generally noticeable. What are your thoughts about McAfee? vs. the alternatives I suggested?

Are the alternatives better than McAfee. I'm getting McAfee free (I think) with my U-verse service but if the alternatives are just as good or better I guess I can switch. Is it a you-get-what-you-pay-for-situation?

It's worth trying just to see if it makes a difference.

I use Microsoft Security Essentials and am very happy with it. It does not have it's own firewall, it's strictly an AV program but the Windows firewall is good so make sure that is turned on after you remove McAfee.
