I would imagine so, yes. Is that for all file types or just for exe files?

Your last post confused me, what were the things above the folders that you didn't see? Was it the t-v files? Maybe change the view to "Details" and sort by the file name to help you out.

I know you don't have your XP CD, and the following command will probably ask for it. If it does, just choose cancel (it may ask more than once).

The System File Checker (SFC) utility can restore lost/damaged/corrupted Windows system files. To run, do the following:
Start|Run, type sfc /scannow and press Enter

For more information: http://www.updatexp....cannow-sfc.html

I'm going to sign off now, I'll check up on this thread tomorrow.

Ok, ax, something good has happened that proves my speakers are workign lol.. the game i currently play, has in-game sound, that actually works on my speakers. the game is fully produced by java. But, on my computer, control panel>sounds and audio devices, there is still no audio device and its all greyed out. does this say something? tell you anything?

Wow that's good to hear Lochy! Do you have access or can you get access to any XP Professional CD (such as from a friend)? If you do, then you can use sfc /scannow, along with the link I gave you, to restore your system files and ensure you can do it in the future if ever need be. sndvol32.exe is the Windows Sound and Volume control program, which is necessary to change any settings. If you can do a successful SFC scan, it should be able to repopulate the utility, but you need to get your hands on a CD.

No problem at all and no you didn't take too much of my time :) I would say your best bet would be with an XP Pro disk, since there are files for XP Pro that don't come on the XP Home disk.

Try - control Panel - Sound and Audio On the Volume Panel - be sure that there is a checkmark in: Place volume icon in the taskbar And adjuct to Device Volume to about mid-way on the slider (or your preference, but not all the way to low)
