now i think on it more i might be wrong about the fan being attached to the heatsink by screws too, seem to remember my stock heatsink was an all in one plastic contraption thing, so if your i5 heatsink is the same then you might need to buy a new heatsink instead of just replacing the fan.

so you have the stock heatsink also in a box unopened? if so i suggest you use it after cleaning the tim from the cpu of course, it should have tim on it already just like the one your using had. :D

I never said i had a heat sink in a box unopened. I have to still buy one if that solves the problem. What i meant was that i had a stock heat sink and fan combo. The fan is screwed to the heat sink when i bought it. That is what is currently in my computer. When i was building my machine, some one on this forum gave me a recommendation for it. They said its always a good idea to buy a new fan and heat sink and don't rely on the one that the CPU comes with.

don't remember i would have to pull up that topic again. I believe i specifically remember some one stated that the fan that it came with was carp** and to buy a knew fan for the CPU. So i did that, all of the links to every part i bought is in that topic. I'll have a look at it.

Alright you know what, hell with this. I am going to buy a knew heat sink and fan, because honestly i think the one i bought might not be so great. I am not to great at picking out fans or heat sinks and knowing which ones to get, so can you perhaps give me a recommendation. or a link to a good one that will work for years to come. Ive already put alot of money into this machine, building it like a gaming machine. So i definitely do not want a crappy heat and fan for the CPU. If the CPU goes out. I'll have to put another 250 dollars in this computer. It is like im spending the cost of the entire computer again and ive only had it for 5 months. Though at this point i will do anything that needs to be done to get this thing fixed.

I believe i bought an OEM CPU that didn't have a heat sink. I remember having to buy a heat sink and fan and i think both were a combo deal.

I know my mobo and CPU were a combo deal.

anyways im not sure what would be considered a top of the line heatsink/fan

You are jumping. no, "Leaping" to an option that is probably not necessary.

And guess what, you will need to apply TIM if you were to buy a different HeatSink/Fan unit, anyway.

Get some good Arctic Siver ceramique as per Terry1966's prior recommendation.
Clean off the surface of the CPU and HeatSink with isopropyl alcohol (I use q-tips)

Apply via the instructions that have been previously linked for you.
Mount the HeatSink/Fan unit back in place.

Fire it up.

and let us know what the bios temps are now reading, depending on how hot it is where you live i would expect to see temperature readings from anywhere between high 20's to low 40's at most, even when left at bios screen for 10 minutes.

hey i found the fan/heat sink that i used with my computer. Just wanted to show you it. Let me know if it was a good decision for my I5 CPU. The one i bought was relatively cheap compared to some others.

http://www.newegg.co...3-094-_-Product

Just for future reference though what would you recommend to be a decent cooling heatsink/fan for my i5 CPU 2.6 ghz.

http://www.newegg.co...Order=BESTMATCH

The heatsink/cpu that i get has to fit this motherboard as well

sorry took so long to answer must of missed your last post.

if you really want to spend money on another heatsink then i'd say go with this one :- http://www.newegg.co...3-065-_-Product

make sure it'll fit inside your case first tho before buying.

my 2nd choice would be this(slightly smaller) :- http://www.newegg.co...6-134-_-Product

youtube is a good place to look when it comes for guides on fitting these things.

Great i can't believe this. My other computer is having issues now. Not the same as power shut downs, but it has alot of BSOD crashes. That makes me think that the windows install might be corrupted. Or it might be a memory isssue. I installed new ram from my new pc, so that isn't the problem. So im trying to use a system restore or repairing windows. But i can't do it because it keeps going into a BSOD before it finishes. I even tried rebooting to safe mode and it still does a BSOD. So no matter what i do i cant access anything on the computer. Cause it will just do a memory dump. Anyways that is another issue, i guess we can work on that after i get my current pc fixed. Honestly i don't see how i have so much trouble with computer's. Every time i fix them, it unfortunately happens again and again. It is like my little sister says. instead of fixing it so many times, just a new pc. She is probably correct. Because that pc is old, its the one that i had prior to my current new pc that were working on now. Anyways one step at a time,
