It looks like it copied it.

First, are you still being redirected ?

Don't want to put you through GMER again so delete Combofix on your desktop and grab a new copy and run it please and post the log

Download ComboFix from one of these locations:

Link 1
Link 2

* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

Yes, I'm still being redirected. I tried running Combofix but I got the blue screen again with the same message that I wrote about in my original post.

OK, I feel we have done all we can do, you where infected before and we cleaned your computer and now your infected again and this time it appears uncleanable. The tools we need you to run won't run and for whatever reason the instructions we post to you do not seem to work. What you need to do is format the hard drive and install a clean copy of windows and be done with it. If you need help with this you can post here

One last shot at this.

C:\ems88.txt <--You can delete this

Copy all the bolded text into notepad and save it as C:\ems88a.txt
Save it to your C:\ drive

cd c:\windows\system32\drivers
ren atapi.sys atapi.old
copy c:\atapi.sys c:\windows\system32\drivers
exit

Then do the same thing in the RC as you did before but run this command

Batch C:\ems88a.txt

Let me know how it went and if this fixes the redirections

Great  Didn't mean to seem so harsh in my previous post but I was running out of ideas,

The infected file we replaced Atapi.sys was the executable file for your hard disk controller, the scum that write malware are going after anything they can.

Lets see if you can run Combofix now. Drag the one on your desktop to the trash and grab a fresh copy. Follow the instructions and make sure you disable your AV

Download ComboFix from one of these locations:

Link 1
Link 2

* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

  • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools
  • See this Link for programs that need to be disabled and instruction on how to disable them.
  • Remember to re-enable them when we're done.

  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.

  • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.

  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.

**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply along with a New Hijackthis log.

Hi,

Go to your Add Remove Programs in the Control Panel and uninstall Viewpoint, it installs without your knowledge or consent, is considered Adware, uses system resources and is not needed for anything.

How are things running now ?

Looks like we may not be out of the woods yet.

With Atapi being fixed and being able to run Combofix, lets see another GMER scan, dont forget to run Defogger first. If GMER gives you issues than run Rootrepeal

Please download DeFogger to your desktop.

Double click DeFogger to run the tool.
  • The application window will appear
  • Click the Disable button to disable your CD Emulation drivers
  • Click Yes to continue
  • A 'Finished!' message will appear
  • Click OK
  • DeFogger will now ask to reboot the machine - click OK
IMPORTANT! If you receive an error message while running DeFogger, please post the log defogger_disable which will appear on your desktop.

Do not re-enable these drivers until otherwise instructed.

Next:

Please download GMER from one of the following locations and save it to your desktop:
  • Main Mirror
This version will download a randomly named file (Recommended)
  • Zipped Mirror
This version will download a zip file you will need to extract first. If you use this mirror, please extract the zip file to your desktop.
  • Disconnect from the Internet and close all running programs.
  • Temporarily disable any real-time active protection so your security programs will not conflict with gmer's driver.
  • Double-click on the randomly named GMER file (i.e. n7gmo46c.exe) and allow the gmer.sys driver to load if asked.
  • Note: If you downloaded the zipped version, extract the file to its own folder such as C:\gmer and then double-click on gmer.exe.

    Posted Image
  • GMER will open to the Rootkit/Malware tab and perform an automatic quick scan when first run. (do not use the computer while the scan is in progress)
  • If you receive a WARNING!!! about rootkit activity and are asked to fully scan your system...click NO.
  • Now click the Scan button. If you see a rootkit warning window, click OK.
  • When the scan is finished, click the Save... button to save the scan results to your Desktop. Save the file as gmer.log.
  • Click the Copy button and paste the results into your next reply.

My computer froze a few hours into GMER so I never got the log. When running RootRepeal, I didn't get an option to choose the C drive. Thanks for all your help Ken :) Some days my computer is working fine and then there are days that it freezes several times before I can use the internet. i've posted about this issue in the other subforum after the last infection...I guess I can restart my thread there since I'm clear?
