OK, everything else looks correct. We will be fixing the Path environment variable:
  • Click Start, right-click My Computer, click Properties
  • On the Advanced tab, click Environment Variables
  • In the "System Variables" section, highlight the "Path" variable
  • Click Edit and replace the current "Variable value" with the following:
    C:\WINDOWS\System32;C:\WINDOWS;C:\WINDOWS\System32\Wbem;C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.5.0_06\bin
  • Click OK until you are out of System Properties.
Post the new results to set path once completed.

Edit: You may have to restart after changing the path variable.

Hmmm, you might want to check it, you should be getting the following:
C:\WINDOWS\System32;C:\WINDOWS;C:\WINDOWS\System32\Wbem;C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.5.0_06\bin

...without the ";Pñ‼" on the end. Did you copy/paste the path string?

It probably would, but it does nothing to explain it. Can you see if the value is there if you go to the variable in System Properties? You can actually just post what is there if you want.

Sorry for not being clear, here are some instructions:
  • Click Start, right-click My Computer, click Properties
  • On the Advanced tab, click Environment Variables
  • In the "System Variables" section, highlight the "Path" variable
  • Click Edit and copy the current "Variable value"
  • Click OK until you are out of System Properties.
Post the copied path value here.

Don't worry about how much time it takes, I'd rather have you able to hear sound than hurry through and miss something important that could solve the problem.

That looks like it should be. Go to Start|Run, type sndvol32, and press Enter. Check the sound properties to ensure correct volume and no muting.

Go to C:\Windows\System32 and see if you can find sndvol32.exe there. If so, double-click it.
