Howdy, CA,

 

Well i do not use everything I have or use it all the time.  But, right now, my machine seems to be running fairly smoothly (thanks to Satchfan!) and I am good with that.

 

I do not understand why I can not just leve things turned off in MSCONFIG?  Can you explain.  Thanks.

Well, you obviously can run with things being overridden in MSCONFIG, but you are, basically, overriding the operating system trying to run your system.  You are putting yourself at risk of continued troubles.  As I said.  You are running in a diagnostic mode at all times.  That is not how it was designed to operate.

 

I think I just figured out why you refer to me as CA.  Is that for my role as Classroom Administrator?

 

Try this for me:

 

STEP 1
 CKScanner

• Please download CKScanner and save the file to your Desktop.
• Right-click CKScanner.exe and select  Run as administrator to run the program.
• Click Search For Files.
• When the cursor hourglass disappears, click Save List To File.
• A message box will verify the file saved.
• Please run this programme only once.
• A log (CKFiles.txt) will be created on your Desktop. Copy the contents of the log and paste in your next reply.
   

STEP 2
 MGADiag (Windows Vista/7)

• Please download MGADiag and save the file to your Desktop.
• Right-click MGADiag.exe and select  Run as administrator to run the program.
• Upon completion, click Continue.
• Click Copy.
• Paste the copied log in your next reply.

For Step 2, all I get is this file:  C:\MGADiagToolOutput that consists of a log.evtx and a tokens.dat file.  Neither of these seem post-able.  What am I missing, CA?

The Microsoft Diagnostic report looks good to me... which means the operating system should be working correctly.

 

However, we have a problem on the CKScanner security risk analyzer.  You are running some pirated software.  Ambroker, Final Draft, and it appears you have been illegally downloading books and, maybe, movies.

 

You need to remove all illegal files and programs on your computer.  I'm believing that this is the root of your issues.

 

To be perfectly honest, with the way you've got things cobbled together to work around the cracks... you'd be best off to save your data files (things you know aren't pirated) and reformat and reinstall your system.

Howdy,

 

Amibroker and Final Draft were both paid for.  I do not use Amibroker anymore; but, I may someday.   Final draft I definitely will use again but do not know when.  I do not know why they were marked illegal.  This Windows 7 Ultimate plus one on another older Dell machine (690) came up "illegal" or "not genuine".  They both came with the machines from Dell.  MS and forum support  helped me get them legal --- other machine about a year ago and this machine last year.

 

[FWIW, and by the way, Bill Gates should be marked "illegal".  In case you do not know.  He did some quite underhanded stuff to get IBM to choose him as the OS guru for the IBM PC.  And, that is not the only stuff he did.  He is a globalist control freak who wants to control education and "do 'good' around the world" controlling other peoples lives.]

 

So, I just do not understand this illegal business.  Paid for these programs and not deleting them.

 

I appreciate you opinion, but one of the drawbacks to that is that in my last physical move,  I lost most of the install packages, etc. ---- plus, it would take me about 100+ and maybe 200+ hours to reinstall all that I have.  

 

I have done some pretty nifty programming in the past (60s to early 90s) but in terms of messing with the OS, etc; i did to this with IBM System 360/370 OSes years ago, but I know none of that knowledge applies to MS OSes..  I know nothing and have not done anything except use the registry and OS "adjustment" tools that I have found,  But, I have deleted them all (I believe) except for Tweaking which I was waiting for Satchfan to tell me some more about.  I am determined not to use them anymore based on Satchfan's suggestions.  

 

So, maybe that is what you mean by cobbling together.

 

So, are there other problems (as with CKscanner) that I need to address at the moment?

Tweaking is a repair tool.  It shouldn't be causing trouble.  It has a nifty registry backup that is easier than backing up the registry manually, but pretty much everything else it does is just run native tools simply... even though you could run each manually from a command prompt.

MSConfig (System Configuration Utility) is a troubleshooting utility used to diagnose and fix system configuration issues. In the Summary section Microsoft says "The System Configuration utility helps you find problems with your Windows configuration. It does not manage the programs that run when Windows starts."

Although it works as a basic startup manager, msconfig should not be used routinely to disable auto-start programs. It is a temporary solution and not a good practice for the following reasons:

• When uninstalling programs while disabled with msconfig, they may not be uninstalled properly and manually editing the registry will be required to remove everything.
• Msconfig will often leave orphaned entries when software is uninstalled. When used to switch back to normal startup mode, these orphan entries can result in boot up errors.
• Msconfig only allows you to disable entries. To completely remove an entry from its' list you have to edit the registry, or use a third-party tool like Msconfig Cleanup Utility or a startup manager.
• Msconfig allows malware related items to hide in your registry which you may not see or affect your computer until switched back to normal startup mode. This could then result in reinfection of the computer.
• Msconfig does not list all applications loaded in all possible startup locations (some entry points are hidden and unknown to the user).

A better alternative is to use a startup manager:

You should not use msconfig to disable startup applications related to services. Doing so alters the registry and there are services that are essential for hardware and booting your system. When you uncheck a service in msconfig, you completely disable it. If you uncheck the wrong one, you may not be able to restart your computer. Changing the default settings for services can be risky and might prevent key services from running correctly. Only change the status of a service if it is necessary. You should only disable services using the Services Management Console (services.msc) where you cannot disable services that may be vital to boot your system.

The reason is because with msconfig and Hardware Profiles, you can disable services that may be vital to boot your system. With the management console (services.msc) you cannot. Also, msconfig, while unchecking the box, is disabling the service.

OK.  Enough about MSConfig.

 

There is/was a known issue of "not genuine" warnings on Dell systems with factory installed Windows 7.  I'm glad you got it resolved.  This is not an issue at this point.

 

The Problem:

 

The fact is, you have at least 3 different pirated versions of Amibroker.

You have a pirated version of Final Draft 6.

 

There is no question.  They are pirated.  If you paid someone for them... you got ripped off.

 

You also appear to have books that have been "modified" to get around security protection.

 

These are "illegal" activities.  It has nothing to do with Bill Gates, Bill Clinton, Bill Cosby, Vladimir Putin, or Donald Trump.

 

The rules here are simple.  Remove them or we are done.  Your computer.  Your choice.

You are correct.  My opinion remark about Bill Gates was uncalled for.  

 

I did pay for those programs.  I do remember I had some problems with Amibroker and someone in a forum helped me to get them working; I remember different version being installed.  Regarding books:  I have close to 1,000 paid for Kindle books; I have receipts for all of them as Amazon keeps them.  But, I did run a DRM (sp?) program so I could view them outside of Kindle.

 

Thank you for all the wonderful help (and advice on MSconfig, etc.) you and Satchfan have given me; I regret that you have turned yourself into attorney, judge and jury; but, that is the way you work and want to run your life (and other people's lives) --- too bad.

 

I was keeping track of the amount of help Satchfan and yourself gave me and was going to make a considerable donation for all the help that I received.  But, instead, i will be only donating $100 USD.

 

Bottom line is what you are claiming I "stole" I did pay for and I will not remove them, so I guess my computer, my software and books --- my choice and so we are done.

Sorry this has reached a less than satisfactory conclusion.  The rules are not mine... please review the sites Terms of Use. I suppose that does make me the judge.  I'm not sure who the attorney is, but you would be the jury as the final decision is yours.

 

There is no requirement or expectation of donations, but that is nice of you.  We are all just volunteers here who all have real lives unrelated to computers.  Satchfan does have a donation button in her signature and I'm sure she would be appreciative.
