Right, USB wouldn't work: drive F:/ is unavailable. Managed to just download it on the laptop though. Internet explorer is working. What's the diagnostic doc? I'm bracing myself.... Hi,

Hopefully we can get some of those started again. :)
----------

Please press the Windows button + R and copy/paste the following >> services.msc into the text box and press Enter.

Find the following:

Security Center - make sure startup type is Automatic
Windows Update - make sure startup type is Automatic
Background Intelligence Transfer Service - startup type is Automatic
COM+ Event System - startup type is Automatic
Windows Backup - startup type is Manual

Once you get that completed, reboot your system and then run a new scan with Farbar Service Scan using the same instructions I provided before and post the new log. :)

Oh balls, I didn't reboot the system before posting that last log, silly me. may as well ignore it... I've got windows firewall working now and I've downloaded CC cleaner and comodo firewall again, but windows security just won't turn on. Hi,

Good to hear that your system is running better. Let's try to get those services reset.

The easiest way to reset services is to use this tool.

Download Windows Repair (all in one) from this site

Install and then run the program.

On the Start Repairs tab, select Advanced Mode and click Start
Posted Image

Select the items Checked in the screen shot below (remove the checks from the rest ) and check Restart System When Finished.

----------

Once finished re-run Farbar Service Scanner and post the newly made log. :)

Hi,

Using another computer, please follow the instructions found on this page to download a portable copy of SuperAntiSpyware to a USB/flash drive.

The file will save with a random name (so that it is not recognized by malware). Please do not change the name to anything else.

Once you have it on the flash drive, I'd like you to run it from the flash drive on your machine and see if it will scan. You don't want to try to move the file to your computer or it may be blocked. It is designed to be launched from the flash drive.

Please post the resulting log file.

Hey,

did the scan with SAS and it picked up 9 threats: 8 tracking cookies and 1 malware. I got rid of them and rebooted the system only to find the log hadn't saved :smack: so I did another scan afterwards, all clean apparently... (Quick scan by the way, both times.)

Hi,

No problem about the log. :)

Lets keep our fingers crossed.

Please delete the current version of Combofix.exe from your desktop and download a new version from here to your desktop.

Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications.

Right-click and Run as Administrator on the Combofix.exe and follow the prombts on your display. When finish, it will create a C:\Combofix.txt. Please post this log for further review.

oh dear. I tried running it this morning, same thing's happening again, it just stalls at "scans for infected ... may take longer" I'll have to try again later on, same tactic as last time? download again and change name?

Hi,

Don't worry about ComboFix. We will try and use OTL to remove this infection.
----------

Please download and run ERUNT (Emergency Recovery Utility NT). This program allows you to keep a complete backup of your registry and restore it when needed. The standard registry backup options that come with Windows back up most of the registry but not all of it. ERUNT however creates a complete backup set, including the Security hive and user related sections. ERUNT is easy to use and since it creates a full backup, there are no options or choices other than to select the location of the backup files. The backup set includes a small executable that will launch the registry restore if needed. **Remember if you are using Windows Vista as your operating system right-click the executable and Run as Administrator.
----------

Run OTL.exe
  • Copy/paste the following text written inside of the code box into the Custom Scans/Fixes box located at the bottom of OTL

    :Services

    :OTL
SRV - (sonicatheaterinstallerservice) -- C:\Windows\System32\vnxservice.dll (Oak Technology Inc.)
NetSvcs: sonicatheaterinstallerservice - C:\Windows\System32\vnxservice.dll (Oak Technology Inc.)
    [2012/03/02 16:17:04 | 000,000,000 | -HS- | M] () -- C:\Windows\System32\dds_trash_log.cmd
    [2011/01/08 11:04:09 | 000,001,940 | ---- | C] () -- C:\Users\Compaq\AppData\Local\{96C87F53-AC72-4604-A9CC-186A49F17F3C}.ini

    :Files
    ipconfig /flushdns /c

    :Commands
    [purity]
    [emptytemp]
    [createrestorepoint]
    [start explorer]
    [Reboot]
  • Then click the Run Fix button at the top
  • Let the program run unhindered, reboot when it is done
  • Then run a new scan and post a new OTL log ( don't check the boxes beside LOP Check or Purity this time )

In your next reply please post the logs that will be created by OTL. :)
