Sorry for the delay in reply. Life has overtaken any other thing I had planned!
Good news is I purchased a new PC today which will make many people's hearts smile because I finally will stop giving this old PC such a hard time!
However my plan is not to plug the new one into the web & I will uninstall the photoshop software off this old PC which will relieve it significantly. I will continue to use this old PC for web related stuff until it dies of natural causes, thereby keeping the Asus clean as long as possible & keeping the number of proceses to a minimum.
However I will still need to resolve these niggling problems like this movie playing problem.
It happens with any video or movie I play whether off the web or from within the PC itself. It even includes footge I load off my camera. So all moving footage suffers the same. With feed for 2sec then momentary pause.
This PC has 2Gb RAM, the graphics card is about 512? (it was big when I purchased this PC but pityfull now!)
I suspect it's a software issue which is why I wanted to update the drivers. It was always playing any video or footage really well until recently. Perhaps there has been a windows (or Quicktime) update come in with an updated driver which has not settled well.
To be honest I think it MAY resolve itself once I uninstall the photoshop because I suspect the quicktime for causing this issue. That's aproximately when it started.
So thinking on the run here....... I might hold off doing more with this PC untill I get the photoshop movie moved off this PC & installed on the Asus. That just may resolve the problem automatically.
My son is going to set the Asus up with a Linux / Ubantu platform & reinstall the win7 onto that so I can't use the new one yet for a little while. I have to make the recovery disc & install some security so he can work on it via online. But he will tell me what security because he has a secure conection.
Unitl I do those things I will let this thread close or go dormant. If unloading the photoshop & the movie files & then clearing all the quicktime off doesn't solve the above movie playing issue & I need extra help, I will come back & ask again.
So this is what I got today:-
I wanted another Toshiba but you can't have everything!
I was very lucky & found everything I basically needed in one package. Pretty much an updated version of my current PC.
Except it's an Asus. I was hesitant but the guy said all the gamers buy that one because that's the best for that job.
it's win7, 64bit, i7 Quad core processor, 16Gb ram, USB3, nVidia GForce with 3Gb graphics card, 17.3" screen, 1.5Tb hard drive, Blue Ray RW CD burner, +++++
Then I got some extras included like 4 extra yrs full use warranty (includes wear & tear breakage) making total of 5.5yr full warranty, special little pocket surge protector & full sized surge protector 8plug board, (I stupidly turned down a Targus business class computer carry case on wheels with overnight case compartment. I thought I'd never use it then later realized how silly that thinking had been since the $170 value bag was coming for free).

To that end rshaffer61 I will say thankyou for your invaluable help.
