JonTom, I ran the Esets scan and it found nothing. Also, it did not open a list of found threats, just a Finish Button, so I pressed it and it gave me a Purchase their software screen.

Hello RetiredChief

Thank you for the logs.

it gave me a Purchase their software screen

No need to buy it :)

I would recommend uninstalling My Way Search Assistant as it has sometimes been associated with Spyware. You can get rid if it through "Add/Remove Programs". If you encounter any problems with the removal just let me know.

The Online Scan logs are clean  Unless you are experiencing any problems with your machine I think you are just about ready to go.

Please work your way through the following steps:

  • Please Uninstall Combofix

    • Click on "Start" and then on "Run".
    • Now type combofix /uninstall in the run box and click "OK". Please note the space between the "x" and the "/Uninstall", it needs to be there.

  • Removal of Tools

    • You no longer need DDS or GMER. Please deltet them from your system.

  • Re-enable your drivers

    • To re-enable your Emulation drivers, double click on DeFogger to run the tool.
    • The application window will appear.
    • Click the Re-enable button to re-enable your CD Emulation drivers.
    • Click Yes to continue
    • A 'Finished!' message will appear.
    • Click OK
    • DeFogger will now ask to reboot the machine - click OK
IMPORTANT! If you receive an error message while running DeFogger, please post the log defogger_enable which will appear on your desktop.
Your Emulation drivers are now re-enabled.

Once you have completed the above steps you should be good to go! If you have any further questions, please feel free to ask.

Hello RetiredChief

Any suggestions?

I try not to be drawn into recommending any specific product or products. We recommend a layered approach to security at WTT - a sinlge real time anti virus and a single Firewall backed up with a selection of "on-demand" scanners for additional support.

I do not know if you are looking for paid products or free alternatives.

Nothing wrong with AVG - it is a reliable and trustworthy product. If you are looking for paid "stand alone" packages that encompass all aspects of system security - take a good look at Kaspersky, ESET NOD32 or perhaps Norton360.

If you want free anti virus and firewall options take a look at the link provided in my closing "all clear" speech. Avira AntiVir, AVAST! and Microsoft Security Essentials all have good reputations and are reliable products.

Remember - have as many on demand scanners as you want (MBAM, Spybot, Superantispyware etc) but only install ONE real time antivirus and ONE firewall on your system.

Keep them all updated and scan your system regularly.

Hope this helps.

JonTom

Hello RetiredChief

Now what?

It is listed as Symantec Client Security in your list of installed programs. It looks like the corporate version of the security suite which may make removal difficult. You can try to remove it through "Add/Remove Programs" but this may not work. From what I can see these are remnants of the program and so should not cause any real problems if you cannot get rid of them.

  • Revo Uninstaller

  • You could give Revo Uninstaller a try.
  • You can dowwnload Revo Uninstaller from here.
  • Information about how to use Revo are provided on the download page.

I also recommend that you get rid of "My Way Search Assistant" as it is sometimes associated with spyware. You can take care of through "Add/Remove Programs".

Hello RetiredChief

Check out post number 48 (DDS attach.txt, installed programs list).

However, if it is not present when you look then there is probably nothing to worry about - I was just being extra cautious (It's always better to chek and make sure).

You scans come back clean, so if you are no longer experiencing any other symptoms you are go to go

JonTom, I removed AVG and installed Microsoft Security Essentials because I like the way its working on the Missuss's machine. I attempted to install Comodo Firewall 3 times but when it gets to the Installing Kernel Drivers function - it starts rolling back the install and I get an error message: the install ended pre-maturely because of an error. Then another screen opens with the following: Cannot install Comando Firewall Error: 1603. Fatal Error during installation. Would you like to try again? Yes No I selected yes the first time and it said the machine needed to be re-started. After the second try and the same results, I deleted all the Comando files and re-downloaded the install program, but got the same results when I attempted to install. Got any ideas? Chief

Hello RetiredChief

Got any ideas?

Maybe one.

The problem you have is described in the thread below. A tool is provided that apparently solves the problem. Let it be known that I have no experience of this tool and if you choose to run it you do so at your own risk.

http://www.worldoweb...tion-error-1603

Failing that you should perhaps start a thread in the Comodo forum: http://forums.comodo.com/index.php

I am sure the Comodo staff will be able to provide you with the assistance you require....if not you can always try a different Firewall - there are one or two others listed in the link I provided before.

Alternatively, since this appears to be a software problem rather than being related to malware, please feel free to create a thread in our Other Software forum: http://forums.whatth...p?showforum=124

Our Experts and User will be able to provide you with some excellent advice.

Good luck and Best wishes :)
