OK, Thanks
Have you considered uninstalling Windows Search 4.0?
Windows Search 4.0 is an intensive search indexer which indexes the presence of every word in every document and file, supposedly for faster retrieval when searching.
While Windows Search 4.0 does appear to perform its task well, and offers encryption as well, it may be a prime factor in slowing machine performance and boot time.
Think about it this way....
The machine has several game installations, some of those game installations may have several language packs all duplicates for the various dialogue and instructions for each game.
Windows Search 4.0 will necessarily "index" each of those words/entries.
And Windows Search 4.0 will read its own index, and conduct an incremental scan at boot time and at other times when the machine may be at rest.
Windows Search 4.0 was designed for users who work with large data base applications and/or who have large libraries of documents that they regularly search in detail.
Probably not necessary for the average home user.
It would be an interesting experiment to see if uninstalling Windows Search 4.0 improved the overall performance of the machine.
You can always re-install it if you or others rely heavily upon it.
However, I will note that the native Microsoft Windows Explorer has an excellent Search function, without the overburden used by Windows Search 4.0
I encourage you to make the experiment, knowing that you can easily reverse to have the utility back later if you wish.
Windows Search 4.0 can be uninstalled via Control Panel - Add/Remove.
and can be freshly downloaded and re-installed from here:
