If you hard drive checked out alright then you can take a look here:
http://www.ehow.com/...-recovery-.html
However...
WARNING do not attempt this if you have not checked your hard drive, or if you have checked it with manufaturer's utility and it has found faults.

i tried downloading the drive checker, but it isnt something to be burned to disk. when i had tried it failed, it didnt even start burning. it appears as though it has to be dwonloaded to the maqchine to be checked. i had put it on usb to try it that way but i recieved this message: mSI launch conditions failed. installation aborted.

Hi,

but it isnt something to be burned to disk

Thats's exactly what you should be doing!
The disc can be burned on any PC.
Post back with the make of your disc and the link you are downloading from and we will provide instructions on how to proceed.

Hi
the version you are trying to use is the one intended for Windows and if I understand you correctly Windows won't start so you will need to use the DOS version....
tutorial available from here:

http://pcsupport.abo...ateseatools.htm

You will need to download it and burn it as an image
ImgBurn available from here is good for doing this.

hi paws, it said that both tests passed :woot: at the link that you provided earlier on this page that is for a reinstall (format) i believe, how would i do a repair install so that i hopefully wouldnt have to lose all my programs that i recieved from give away of the day? they only provide a license that can be used for 1 day in order to activate which means that i'd have to hope that they would make the offer again or buy'em all, which cant.

thats good news that your drive checked out OK.
You could try a repair install......
even though a repair install is supposed to be "non destructive" its best to make sure your back up is 100%.......
if the repair doesn't work then you can alwars move on to the "destructive" format and reinstall.
Windows Repair Installation info and instructions available here:

Good luck and let us know how you go

hi paws, i dont know whats going on. i followed the instructions at the link but i do not get anything on my screen about the xp install. i am booting from the cd and i have tried every option available. it seems as though the only way to even begin to load up from the cd IS to press "r" then recovery starts loading and the screen "pc angel" comes, i get a progress bar at the bottom like the one i get with the reatogo, next is a bluish screen (not the bsod), it then continues to load and reboots and it starts all over agin. i tried it 5-6 times using every available option.

Since you have PC Angel, have you tried pressing F10 during boot to bring up the PC Angel recovery dialog? I did this recently on a Gateway system that I ordered the recovery CD for and it was not a normal CD, it was a CD that is used by PC Angel to restore the computer. When I used it, PC Angle did not like something so it asked for the Recovery CD. When I provided that it did a full restore, but it took a long, long time, like 3-4 hours, but at the end everything was back to factory installed state and the computer worked great. Give it a try and see if it works for you.

Just for grins, try F11 and Alt+F11, see if that brings up a different screen. What is the make and model number of your computer?

nope. same thing that i described above. what i tried so far is F10 at boot up that gives me boot menu so i boot from my dvd drive then it goes to recovery, says to press r for recovery options and that it will either boot from the recovery partition or the cd if there is no partiotion and than what i already described happens. i also tried not pressing r and then it just goes down hillfrom there to. just now i tried what you asked to do and got the "angel" screen, the the progrss bar then the bluish screen then the reboot.

If this was my computer, I would put in a different hard drive to test to see if I could use the recover CD you have. If that works then that says there is a problem with your hard drive, no matter what the diags say. I have several spares so it's easy for me to do. You may not have any others available. Can you borrow one to use for a bit? Other that that, I'm out of ideas at the moment.
