Hi Paws, Thanks for taking on my problem again. You are certainly not "teaching my Grannie to suck eggs". I am still very much a learner and there are numerous times when I have to ask for guidance. Thank you very much for spelling out the number of options that I can take. Providing you are prepared to stick with me as you said you are then I would like to carry on with help from the forum. The number one option. I really appreciate your commitment to my problem Not only will "we" be able hopefully to rectify my problem but it is also helping me on my steep learning curve on computers. I look forward to hearing from you Regards Malc. PS The following error message appeared on my PC yesterday. DRIVER_IRQL-NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL STOP; OXOOOOOOD1 (OXOOOOOOOO, OXOOOOOOO2, OXOOOOOOOO, OXA9C7EDD8) tcpip. sys-Address A9C76000, Datestamp 472767f4.

Hi Malc, Ok , I understand. As a first step its important that all your important stuff, documents, emails, photos, music, letters, etc etc (that would create a problem for you if it was lost) on your computers is backed up/archived/copied to removable media and checked to see that it is up to date accurate and reproducible. 1 Can you confirm to me please when you have done this? Next: 2 Do you have your Microsoft Windows XP Installation Disc? Also: 3 Do you have your Manufacturers Restore disc(s) available? Regards paws

Hi Malc,
It is important that you do not email me with the information.
Please be sure that any reply you send is in this forum, so that everyone can see what had been said and follow what is going on.
It is important that you get all your important stuff that is on your computer safely copied to removal media, before we do any thing else.
Thanks

Hi again MALC

Well. I've been snooping around alittle for error's. And as I mentioned very early in this topic, this is due to either a buggy driver or
faulty / wrong installed hardware, possible also the RAM. I'll explain myself further.

1. This error is typical for driver's / hardware / software (applications, malwareprograms etc)

Following message is from the site Aumha.org. Where i found the info.

Typically due to a bad driver, or faulty or incompatible hardware or software. Technically, this error condition means that a kernel-mode process or driver tried to access a memory location to which it did not have permission, or at a kernel Interrupt ReQuest Level (IRQL) that was too high. (A kernel-mode process can access only other processes that have an IRQL lower than, or equal to, its own.)

2. This error is typical for driver / hardware / RAM

Following message is from the site Aumha.org. Where i found the info.

The system attempted to access pageable memory using a kernel process IRQL that was too high. The most typical cause is a bad device driver (one that uses improper addresses). It can also be caused by faulty or mismatched RAM, or a damaged pagefile.

3. Typical symptom of Driver / hardware / Haxdoor Virus and several Rootkit's / Wrong Setting in BIOS of RAM clock rate

Have no message for this one, as the info was scattered all over the place in various webpages. Mostly all messages said the RAM was to blame. But i wouldn't ignore that the virus Haxdoor have this error message as a symptom, or that several rootkit's can cause this error. So basically, you have to decide to if you wanna pursue the driver / hardware or try HJT-log(?) If you decide for the first, try follow the steps given by Aumha.org for troubleshooting STOP error's, which can be found here: LINK

Those may or may not be the only solutions. I am sure Paws will investigate this also, so maybe theres more solutions to this.
I'll try put aside some more time to this issue, as this have been going on for awhile, and I am sure you want your PC up and running flawless.

Kind regards Abydos

Hi Malc
That is good news that you have the Dell Restore discs so if the worst comes to the worst you should be able to restore your computer to exactly how it was when it left the factory.

However lets not be goomy, as it may not come to that...........once you have copied off all your important stuff maybe we can follow some of the valuable suggestions already made here on the forum and get rid of those pesky blue screens!
Have a look here as it sets out a joly good way of copying your stuff.

Let us know if you have any problems with it or when you have done it all

Hi Malc, My reasons for wanting you to get all your important stuff safely copied off to removable media is because I am fearful that one day soon your machine will fail to start, and you will have to use your Dell Restore Discs to get going again. This will wipe everything from your machine ..............all your documets, photos, letters , everything etc so make sure that all your stuff is safely copied off your machine, as soon as you can. Don't forget to copy/back up/archive your "My Documents" folder as this is where a lot of your letters, music /family photos etc are usually stored. Your machine seems to be a Dell Inspiron 530 is that correct? If it was only supplied to you in Oct 2007 then almost certainly it will still be under guarantee...... I think you should consider carefully contacting Dell and talking the problem over with a Dell technician as they may be able to talk you through a solution over the phone They are available from 8am to 8pm on 0870 908 0800 and although this is a higher rate telephone call I think if you check it out with BT you may not find its too bad. They will also be able to tell you what they can do (or not do!) under the guarantee. When you phone you will need your "Service Tag "and this is usually to be found on a sticker on your machine and also on the invoice/quote/receipt from Dell Be prepared for the technician to tell you to use the Restore discs......so please heed my comments about getting all your stuff safely copied off. If you can, make a note (on a sheet of paper) of all your passwords, for your Internet and email (and anything else,) and also your user name or account name and here Malc please be sure to write absolutely accurately, if your user name (For Example only) is malcofleeds then this is quite different from MALCOFLEEDS upper and lower case characters are different and your computer needs exactly the right method of setting it out.........otherwise it will sulk! Also if you put a space where there should not be a space (or the other way round!) the answer is the same....it won't work! I don't want to labour the point Malc but a dot where there shouldn't be a dot is also bad, bad news as here again it just won't work.....so please be mighty careful on how you write things down! It would be handy for the technician to know the exact blue screen error codes so write 'em down or print them out and have them handy. Good luck and let me know how you get on Regards paws PS its a pity you are so far away in Leeds, otherwise I would call in and do it all for you......, but its too far for me to go, and I don't think the authorities would like me cycling 250 miles up the M1 :)

Hi paws, according to my invoice my machine is a Dell E520 Pentium D 925 Processor Dual Core. Invoice date August 2007. If possible I would prefer not to contact Dell as I have already gone through this process. Shortly after I got my PC a Blue Screen came up. I spoke to one of their technician who "took over" my machine and wiped every thing off my computer and then reinstalled it all. The technician who I spoke to was not English and though very patient I found it very difficult to understand. Because of my lack of under standing at that time I found it to be very exhausting. For awhile my PC was ok but then it started again as you know. I fully understand if you do not want to continue helping me as you have other clients that require attention so please say if this is the case. If I fail to save something that I should have saved then I would regard it as the price that I had to pay to get back to a PC that works. Regards Malc.

Hi Malc, I understand, I will stick with you to get this problem fixed......as long as it takes. My reason for suggesting that you contact Dell, is that we always try to give "suitable advice" on the forum and when your machine is only a few months old and still under guarantee and suffering from either hardware faults or driver issues, then the recommendation to get Dell to sort it out for you under guarantee is a good step to take. However it's your machine and the choice is yours, Its a powerful machine you have and it should work faultlessly and so we can understand how frustrating it is for you. We can assist with a lot of software suggestions...but if it turns out to be a hardware problem I.E. component parts that need relacing in a workswhop or by a Dell engineer, then you will probably have to contact Dell or pay for a local computer technician to sort it out for you......however a local technician could be very costly. .....Dell have a duty (statutory in the UK) to provide you with a product that is of "merchantable quality" and a hardware fault that arises within the first 6 months of ownership is deemed to be an "inherent defect" and be their responsibility to fix at no cost to you. The burden of proof is upon Dell to disprove that the fault is an "inherant defect" ....but only within the first 6 months! Thereafter the burden of proof shifts and it's up to you to prove it. Your 6 month period is "up" very soon now....... so you can see why I made the suggestion to contact Dell as soon as possible! Once you are satisfied that you have copied all the important stuff off you machine post back here in this thread if you want to continue with us here, and we will then start with checking your drivers are correctly installed. Regards paws

Hi Malc I'm worried about you.... Your 6 months (from initial purchase) must soon be up, so contact Dell as soon as you possibly can, or post back here if you want us to proceed with helping you. If your machine has failed to start or you cannot otherwise use it to reach the forum here, then you can use a machine in your local library to contact us or ask a chum if you can use theirs for a while. Regards paws
