I am about 1/2 way through with the final clean-up and installations and such but I wanted to let you know, 1. Uninstall Combofix, instructions did not find Combofix at all. I tried multiple times. However, it appears to have disappeared from my desktop. :blink:

Seems like no matter what I do, I get an error or a message that I don't have what I am looking for. There is no java control panel found in the control panel. When I go to download the NoScript and AdBlockPlus, I get messages that appear to say I don't have Firefox which is crazy because I can open it right now if I want to. I don't know what to do at this point. :wall:

CoolCat,

Java:
  • To access the Java Control Panel
  • Go to the Start menu > Run > type "javacpl.cpl"
  • Java Control Panel should open
  • Make the necessary changes and close
=========================

The add-ons for Firefox
  • If you continue to receive the error messages, you can try uninstalling Firefox.
  • Reboot
  • Then reinstall Firefox, then try to re-install the add-ons.

I am experiencing all sorts of problems, here. First, I downloaded Comodo Firewall which seems to be doing a good job! When I turned on the computer, today, I got a message, right away, that said a devise was trying to access the computer or the network - I believe it said network but there was a lot of comoition going on here in the house and I was distracted and trying to tell the family what was going on but no one was listening and going on about silly stuff. Grrr. I denied it access but copied the IP address, first. I won't post the IP unless you request it or I can send via PM but I tried several sources to run it down. The main contents of the messages I get say that the IP address "is not routable. It's not possible to obtain any details." I have had terrible problems with my cell phone and my son's ever since we got them and I just talked to Sprint 10 days ago that told me one very close neighbor to me is using an Airave and it is routing my calls through the Airave. I believe this devise runs through the ISP. I noticed there is another cell phone number attached to my Sprint account, last night while checking my account because the Airave they said they were sending has never arrived. I am wondring if this IP address trying to connect to my computer is the neighbor's Airave or perhaps mine was delivered to the wrong address and someone else very closeby is using it, causing this problem and IP address to show up in my list of things trying to access my computer? And every time I boot AOL, a window pops up saying it's from Microsoft and Internet Explorer Add-on Installer, Microsoft Windows, then asks me to deny or allow and I am clicking deny! I have no clue what this is. There are details below with what looks like a registry key but the thing will not let me take a screen shot of it. I ahve tried many, many times and no go. I am getting really frustrated with this and concerned as well because I don't know if this is the neighbor's Airave or somthing else. And I also froze up, again, and had another crash but didn't have to reboot. I just told it not to kill the pages. I can't remember anything else right now. I sure would like your opinion on this IP address situation that I blocked and the message I am getting from Microsoft when I boot AOL, though. Thank you!!!

Hi CoolCat,

Firewall question:Each Firewall you may choose to install will have a "learning curve" associated with them. some are easier to configure than others. You can only find the right fit for you by trying different ones. The learning curve applies to both the program learning your system and how you want the firewall to protect your computer. And how you learn how to configure the tools features to give you the level of protection you desire. When these pop-ups appear you need to read the pop-up and decide how you want the computer to treat that same action the next time it encounters it. Usually, these pop-ups will only occur when you are trying to do a specific action. i.e. when you install a new program that requires internet access to get updates the firewall will recognize this and ask you how you want to handle this request in the future. You will receive similar requests for action depending on what you are trying to do. It's up to you to allow or deny these actions. Once you "teach" the firewall how to handle these requests you shouldn't have to continue to address these issues. These are necessary steps required usually after installing a new firewall.

======================

IP:Yes go ahead and post the IP address

======================

Sprint & Airave:.Your router should have encryption enable to prevent unauthorized accounts using your network. Is your router set up properly?

Do you get your Internet access through Sprint?

The issues with the Sprint & Airave will probably be something for Sprint to address.

======================

Microsoft Add-Ons:Does it say what add-on is trying to install?

Check if running without add-ons stops the installer popup.
Go to Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools and open Internet Explorer (No Add-ons).

If it goes away, open Internet Explorer go to Tools, click Manage Add-ons, change the Show setting on the left to All Add-ons then select all of the add-ons listed and click Disable All. You can then restart normally and enable the add-ons one by one to find what add-on is causing the problem .

The IP address is 192.168.1.129

I don't believe I am having a problem with the firewall at all. It is doing what its supposed to do.

As far as Sprint & Airave, like I said, the one Sprint was supposed to send to me has never arrived but a neighbor has one as well. The only way I know this is that Sprint went into my account and found that about 1/2 my calls are going through it, not my local or closest tower. I can't talk to the neighbor because I am not supposed to let them know Sprint told me they have it???? plus they don't speak English, anyway, and they have a sign on the door saying not to knock or ring the bell. Nice, not!

The router is an older Linksys that X-box live approves of for my son's internet connection with X-box live and their technical support assisted him in the setup. I have no clue how it's set up and I am sure he wouldn't let me change a thing on that for fear of interrupting or messing with his games. :wacko:

The internet is via Mediacom Cable, not Sprint, but as I understand it, if the Airave ever arrives, it will access via Mediacom.

As far as the Add-on, it is like I said. All it says on the popup window is Internet Explorer Add-on Installer, Microsoft Windows, then asks me to deny or allow and I am clicking deny! There are details below with what looks like a registry key but the thing will not let me take a screen shot of it.

CoolCat,

So if I under stand it correctly the Airave unit is just to boost the wireless signal, correct? What did Sprint say they recommended doing about it?

With the Microsoft add-on, chances are that when you try and open AOL in order for it to function to it's fullest it needs and add-on. That is what is it prompting you to allow.
The registry entry you see in the pop-up message is just letting you know that Windows wants to edit or add to that particular registry key. It is probably OK to allow this action.

Like I said previously, if you are making changes to your computer (i.e. software, hardware etc) Windows recognizes these actions and needs to update the registry to allow for smoother running.

Here is the information about the IP address:

192.168.1.129 is an IP address in the range 192.168.1.1 - 192.168.1.255.
Home networks use this address range. A router can assign 192.168.1.129 to any device (Ipad, laptop, Home computer, Mobile phone, etc.) of the local network automatically.

Hi OCD, I have a dds file sitting in a folder where I usually have all my anti-virus icon/links in. I do not recall putting in there nor do i have any idea what it is. What should I do with this? I have been sick and not feeling up to keeping up with finishing this off. Please give me a few more days. The computer still seems to be running slow and there are some other diagnostic issues I found which I will try to post and/or relocate and post over the weekend. BTW, the Airave belongs to one of my neighbors, not me. But sprint sent me one in order to route my calls though it instead of the neighbor's. I haven't been able to set it up, yet. Thanks so much for your patience. :)

How do I post the dds log? I just appears to be a file and when I had initially scanned it with SpyBot, that told me it was infected.
