i have uninstalled HP MediaSmart Music/Photo/Video & CyberLink Power2Go, but it still hangs..

sorry for your wait for an answer from rshaffer61, yukukuhi but he's having problems posting a reply for some reason, so we're trouble shooting it, and why you may see some test replies or get notifications of a reply without there actually being one here when you visit.

Check the hard drive with the manufacturer's diagnostic tools.

Make sure, you select tool, which is appropriate for the brand of your hard drive.
Depending on the program, it'll create bootable floppy, or bootable CD.
If downloaded file is of .iso type, use ImgBurn: http://www.imgburn.com/ to burn .iso file to a CD (chose "Write image file to disc" option), and make the CD bootable.

NOTE. If your hard drive is made by Toshiba, try the Hitachi DFT CD Image version of the software

my hard drive is seagate, i did seagate drive test - long test. scan results showed no error or problem with the drive, all test passed.

A If you have more than one RAM module installed, try starting computer with one RAM stick at a time.

NOTE Keep in mind, the manual check listed above is always superior to the software check, listed below. DO NOT proceed with memtest, if you can go with option A

B. If you have only one RAM stick installed...
...run memtest...


1. Download - Pre-Compiled Bootable ISO (.zip). If you prefer to use the USB version then use this link [url="http://HTTP:"//http://memtest.org/download/4.20/memtest86+-4.20.usb.installer.zip""]USB KEY[/url]
2. Unzip downloaded /memtest86+-4.20.iso.zip file.
3. Inside, you'll find /memtest86+-4.20.iso file.
4. Download, and install ImgBurn: http://www.imgburn.com/
5. Insert blank CD into your CD drive.
6. Open ImgBurn, and click on Write image file to disc
7. Click on Browse for a file... icon:



8. Locate memtest86+-4.20.iso file, and click Open button.
9. Click on ImgBurn green arrow to start burning bootable memtest86 CD:



10. Once the CD is created, boot from it, and memtest will automatically start to run. You may have to change the boot sequence in your BIOS to make it work right.

To change Boot Sequence in your BIOS
Reboot the system and at the first post screen (where it is counting up memory) start tapping the DEL button
This will enter you into the Bios\Cmos area.
Find the Advanced area and click Enter
Look for Boot Sequence or Boot Options and highlight that click Enter
Now highlight the first drive and follow the directions on the bottom of the screen on how to modify it and change it to CDrom.
Change the second drive to the C or Main Drive
Once that is done then click F10 to Save and Exit
You will prompted to enter Y to verify Save and Exit. Click Y and the system will now reboot with the new settings.


The running program will look something like this depending on the size and number of ram modules installed:




It's recommended to run 5-6 passes. Each pass contains very same 8 tests.

This will show the progress of the test. It can take a while. Be patient, or leave it running overnight.



The following image is the test results area:



The most important item here is the “errors” line. If you see ANY errors, even one, most likely, you have bad RAM.

i have 2 rams, i tried with one ram but it still hanged. so i did memtest, no errors were found in the results. btw i forgot to tell there is lot of unwanted programs in startup, but some i couldn't remove coz its not showing in add or remove program or in the hard drive smartmenu TKBellEXE sweetpacks communicator skype

Try using Revo uninstaller to get rid of unwanted programs.


Download and install Revo Uninstaller

• Double click the Revo Uninstaller icon on your desktop to start the program
• Scroll through the listed programs and Right Click on the program you wish to uninstall
• From the pop out menu choose Uninstall
• Click Yes to the confirmation dialogue
• In the next window select the Advanced mode
• Click Next to start uninstalling the program
• Answer Yes to confirm the uninstall
• When the program has completed the four steps, click Next to allow the program to search for leftovers
• Once complete, click Next, then Finish
• Repeat the above steps for any other programs you wish to remove.

OK those programs are not set to autorun on your system. Though they are in the list they not running unless you start them manually.

Sorry for the delay, I cleaned completely inside the CPU unit and reinstalled the OS. Now the hanging problem is gone. Does graphics driver uptade causes this hang. Someone said to turn off windows automatic updates, is it wise to turn off them.

Turning off auto updates is risky since you would receive security updates from Microsoft. If you want to make sure what is updated set the updates to download only and then you can chose what to update or not. I am glad to hear you got the issue resolved and if the video driver is a faulty update then yes it could be the cause of the freezing.

How is everything running now and any issues with auto updates since my last reply??

everything is ok, but the cpu usage is 100% even when system is idle.
