I wait and see what Doug will have to say, if you tried his recommendations of trying to run without add on's its possible IE is messed up and a re-set may be in order, But wait and see what he says because he may have another idea in mind of this matter. Jimbo1

I checked out a similar thread on IE8 and it told me that I have installed IE8 before SP3 and that I should remove SP3 and then I will be able to uninstall IE 8 and then SP3 and then install IE8. I went on to another PC running XP (the Evo) and checked my up dates and found SP3 is KB936929. I then went to this PC and checked in my loaded updates and could not find a reference to the KB No. in there. So question is how do I remove SP3 to enable me to remove IE8, then I can install SP3 and then IE8. If that makes any sense?

DJ92,

It goes without saying, but cannot be left unsaid...
Do you have all of your important documents and files backed-up on the affected machine?
If not, do so now.

Then consider the steps outlined by Microsoft, here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/950249

Hi Guys, I have sorted the problem. I uninstalled some of my updates last night, ran my installation disc again in repair mode, switched of and went to bed. This morning I had updates waiting for me when I switched on. I then installed Speccy and ran it and it shows that windows updates are turned on and scheduled. As I only use Firefox for browsing the problem has been solved. Thanks again to all you guys for your input. I am just about to try and revive an old Viglen PC that suddenly stopped working about a year ago so I will probably be back on with a fresh post looking for help with that. Thanks again all you very helpful people. Have a good day. Del.

Thanks for letting us know. Remember, it is still essential to replace those Windows Updates, even though you use only Firefox for browsing. Best Regards
