Did you try downloading it directly with the link I supplied?

Felix, 'm not sure I understand the problem here.

You say that after installing Java, when you go into the Control Panel and double-click the Java Icon you get the error message. I don’t understand what you were trying to do if you have the latest version of Java.

Since Sun sold Java to Oracle there have been little glitches and the Java icon seems to be one of them. We could carry on until we find the problem but as long as you have the latest version and uninstall old versions you should be OK.

If the icon is the only problem, I suggest you uninstall Java and then use the link I gave you to get the latest version again: that might solve it.

Hi Satchfan, The icon issue is related to the fact that I was trying to follow your previous instructions : "After the install is complete, go into the Control Panel (using Classic View) and double-click the Java Icon. (looks like a coffee cup) On the General tab, under Temporary Internet Files, click the Settings button. Next, click on the Delete Files button There are two options in the window to clear the cache - Leave BOTH Checked Applications and Applets Trace and Log Files Click OK on Delete Temporary Files Window Note: This deletes ALL the Downloaded Applications and Applets from the CACHE. Click OK to leave the Temporary Files Window Click OK to leave the Java Control Panel." If this is not a major problem, I will uninstall Java again and reinstall it through your link even though the icon still has a problem. Please tell me what do to next. Thanks

Hi Felix

I’m sorry that I confused you – I forgot that you had installed it and the problem was with the Java applet.

I believe that there are certain files that could be related to this problem but this is not my forte and my assistance and advice would be reliant on research alone and not expertise.

As your computer is free of malware, my job is done and therefore if after uninstalling/re-installing Java the problem persists, I would suggest that you ask for advice at our Windows forum here. They know what they are talking about and will advise you.

You did well following the instructions to clean your computer and if you followed the cleaning up instructions I would say we are done here.

Regards

Satchfan
