Hi Jeff,
I suggest we tackle this in 2 parts. Part One will to be to download the tools and save them to your desktop, and Part Two will be to run each individual tool or application …..they should be run in the order set out below.

So to make a start please download the following applications and save the executable files to your desktop (so you can find them easily)

Part One
1 Download the Office XP Resource kit from Microsoft and save it to your desktop
The executable is orktools.exe
http://download.micr...8B/orktools.exe

Next

2 Download the Office 2003 Resource kit from Microsoft. And save it to your desktop
The executable is ork.exe
http://download.micr...16a296a/ork.exe

3 You have already run the Windows Clean Up utility (msicuu2.exe) but I will want you to run this again…but not just now (I’ll let you know when!) just for the moment, please make sure you can find it, if you can’t find it then download it from Microsoft and save it to your desktop.
http://download.micr...1bd/msicuu2.exe

Part Two
4 Please click on Start>Control Panel>Add and Remove Programs, and look for any thing called Microsoft Office or anything that refers to it, click on uninstall and follow any on screen directions.

5 When it’s finished close down your machine, then wait 30 seconds with a blank black screen.

6 Now restart your machine and wait 5 minutes.

7 Repeat step 4 above to make sure that there’s absolutely nothing left in the whole of the list of applications, (scroll right the way down the list and then back up again to make sure you definitely haven’t missed anything connected with Microsoft Office, if you do find something then uninstall it and then I’m afraid it’s the close down, wait, restart, and wait again, routine It’s a pain but if you miss out any of the steps including the close downs, waits restarts and waits…… then the fix will fail!

8 Next run the 2003 Resource Kit (that’s the ork.exe that’s on your desktop.) Use the Removal Wizard. Use it to delete ALL previous versions of MS Office. It will delete a load of files. When its done then, yes you’ve guessed it…. it the close down, wait, restart, wait, routine again.

9 Next run the Office XP Resource kit (that’s the orktools.exe that’s on your desktop.) Do exactly the same as before in step 8 and tell it to remove all previous versions of MS Office and follow it with the now familiar close down, wait, restart, wait, routine.

10 Next we need you to manually delete the files that maybe are still left behind. Delete these folders -

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\OFFICE*11 or (*any number) (or just "OFFICE")
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\OFFICE

11 Now please run the Windows Clean Up utility (msicuu2.exe)
To use the Windows Clean Up utility, try these steps:
Click Start,>Programs,>Windows Install Clean Up.
Select the program that you want to remove, that is anything with MS Office in it, and then click Remove.
Click OK and then click Exit

12 Next it’s the dreaded close down, wait, restart, wait and then please run the clean up on the C Cleaner that you have installed.

13 Now a final close down, wait, restart, wait and we should be ready to reinstall your Microsoft Office again.

14 start and complete the reinstall of MS office and let us know how you go

On step #4, should I uninstall items that I see called Microsoft Office Live Add-in 1.4 and Microsoft Office Outlook Connector? These are the only two items that I see with Microsoft Office in the name. I am going to want to use Outlook, as I had been using it until it stopped working. I have it on a seperate cd in case that is needed.

I am not sure what I did wrong or differently here but I need some advice. I did a full install of ork.exe but maybe your instructions had assumed a typical install. So after the install, I had to find it in Start - All Programs - Microsoft Office - Microsoft Office Tools - Microsoft Office 2003 Resource Kit. When I clicked it to run it. I checked the box to Completely remove all my previous versions of Microsoft Office applications. And I didn't choose to Save the list of files it would delete, which it found rather quickly - maybe after only a minute or less. Now I ran step 9 otktools.exe by double clicking the icon on my desktop and I chose a full install. When it finished installing, it just quit. What next? Do I need to run it? How do I run it? On my Start menu, there are new items at the end of the list named Microsoft Office Tools and Microsoft IEAK which looks like something for Internet Explorer. I have never seen these before, as my All Programs list is alphabetized with folders first, then applications. If I click on either Profile Manager or Customization Wizard in the Microsoft IEAK folder on this list, it give me a box saying I need to have Internet Explorer 5.0 installed before using IEAK 5 and to use the cd or micorsoft.com/ie website to install it. So perhaps I should uninstall this program using Control Center - Add Or Remove Programs?

This look like you are step 8 here, and what you did is just fine... the next thing is the close down, wait, restart wait... ( I hope you remembered to do this!...if you forgot before you moved on please let me know)

Next it looks like you are on step 9 and so have installed the Office XP resource Kit...so yes you now should try to run it....... here's the drill

9 Next run the Office XP Resource kit (that’s the orktools.exe that’s on your desktop.) Do exactly the same as before in step 8 and tell it to remove all previous versions of MS Office and follow it with the now familiar close down, wait, restart, wait, routine.

When you've finished that just follow on with the other steps.

On Step 10 I did not find: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\OFFICE only folders or files that I see in All Users is Desktop Documents Favorites OLDREG which includes only a file called NTUSER.DAT 256kb 7/17/2006 4:16pm Start Menu NTUSER.DAT 256kb DAT file 7/22/2005 12:30pm Should I delete OLDREG folder and NTUSER.DAT? On Step 11, I saw and removed the Office 2003 Resource Kit 11.0.5614.0 and Office XP Resource Kit Tools 10.0.6403.0 I've run cCleaner so I guess it is time to install!!! During Install, it errored out after copying some new files with an error box titled Microsoft Office 2003 Setup saying Error 1311 Source file not found C:\MSOCache\All Users\900409-6000-11D3-8CFE-0150048383C9\CC561401.CAB Choices are Retry (which doesn't do anything) and Cancel. After hitting Cancel, it asks are you sure you want to Cancel - Yes or No. I think this happened last time I tried an Install, but I wasn't expecting a problem, so I didn't make good note of the incident.

Hi Jeff,

OLDREG which includes only a file called NTUSER.DAT 256kb 7/17/2006 4:16pm
Start Menu
NTUSER.DAT 256kb DAT file 7/22/2005 12:30pm
Should I delete OLDREG folder and NTUSER.DAT?

NO , please don't delete anything in the above box yet, but I do need to know the full path to the files, can you post back with the full paths please.
Just a few extra questions Jeff.

A) Are sure you are doing these steps from an Account with Administrator priviliges?
B) Are sure you have Your Microsoft Operating system updated with Service Pack 3?
C) Are you sure you are using the correct Microsoft Office Installation disc? ie not a copied disc. If it is OEM is should only be used with the Computer it was bought with..can you comment on this please?
D) Are you sure you have exactly performed the close downs waits, restarts, and waits at each step, and not missed out..... even just one?
E) in post 27 you mentioned a "slow restart" and in the next post I asked you to expand on this.....can you tell me what you mean by a "slow restart" please
F) Was this computer ever part of a network or used on a network?, if so was the original installation performed via the network.

If you can post back with the answers to the avove.... and the paths that I need to know for the stuff in the "code box" above ... I'll advise the next step

Hi, Ok
Thanks Jeff
I want to get rid of the MS Office stuff only so leave the files in your last post as they are.
I want you please to run the two Resource Kit files again.........you will probably have to download them again....
This time can you install and run the orktools.exe first..please.
http://download.micr...8B/orktools.exe
(Use the removal wizard tool and delete all previous versions of MS Office but don't do a close down wait restart etc this time.........)
but immediately follow it by installing and running the ork.exe. (Use the removal wizardt tool and delete all previous versions of MS Office etc)
http://download.micr...16a296a/ork.exe
Proceed as you did before (Use the removal wizard tool and delete all previous versions of MS Office and now do the close down wait restart etc etc
Lastly repeat all the steps from 10 onwards and let us know if this does the trick..

Good idea to stay on course. Run orktools.exe. Result is a box - There are no files for the removal wizard to remove. I click "finish". It pops up box saying "The Microsoft Office removal wixard will start the irreversible system operation. Continue? I click OK Without a shutdown, I run ork.exe by clicking the link. Microsoft Office 2003 Resource Kit setup. Install to c:\Program Files\Orktools was completed successfully, click OK, Help, are these two steps the same? When I click the second link above, I get a selection of Add or Remove Features, Reinstall or Repair, and Uninstall Microsoft Office 2003 Resource Kit. I clicked Cancel.
