TOMT,

Hi Tallin, OK about the abbreviation bit.... I am slowly looking at all the info that is now there, mind boggling tho lolololol ! there are a lot of services that are required for programs that are on my PC. Is this normal??

Yes it is, so you need to be very careful what you change as I think you have had the experience before of changing your settings that your system did not take kindly to.

I also ran the 'Uniblue SpeedupMyPC' (form the Process Library Link) and this said that there were many tweaks that could be done?

:smack: :smack: :smack: Tom, I did say download Quick Access, please don't click on advertisements in any links you surf, that is where you get false information, Malware, and all the nasties around on the internet. Do not follow their tweaks, or anything else they say to do.

I did not register a copy, just did the scan and had a look at the files it mentioned. Many were in the Task Manager Process, but there were hundreds of secret files??? what are these?? and 10-15 windows tweaks. I have run programs like this before discovering this forum, and my PC did not like what they did at all!! I would rather do as you have suggested to me!

There you go, so please just follow the part I have made bold in the above quote........

Also the sound/video thing is an issue I have had for a while, sometimes it isn't a problem, but then some days it is. Upon watching Task Manager (as I have this up a lot now to see what is running  ) I have noticed that when I have the performance pane up and watching CPU Usage, that when the sound/video starts to get 'Glitchy' my CPU is hitting 90-100%. As soon as I close the video, CPU drops back down to 0%. Could there be an issue with my CPU???

I guess it is time to upgrade your RAM now you have the information what to do. If you are not sure of installing it yourself, buy it at an IT shop in your area, they will install it for you for free, or they should, and clean out your tower at the same time for dust bunnies. A very good investment to have a professional do it for you.......I do and my systems are marvellous the way they perform for me.

I am finding all this new information interesting, I have not made any changes as of yet, I will wait till I am on days off, and have a clear head and plenty of time....

Good, when I was very new to computers, I found it all interesting also, still do and your decision to wait until days off is a wise one. You cannot go wrong if you are careful, and write everything down you change and how you changed it so you can reverse it if your system does not perform to your liking.

Your doing well, so keep me posted

kind regards,

Posted Image TOMT,

I think it is worth having, can do no harm. All mine ever tells me is

No Unnecessary Startups found

Here is a snap of my Startup in msconfig - you only really need your Antivirus, and in my case I like my special clock and WinPatrol which is a good security software program. You can google it if you want it, it is also free. Oh, and the other two are BOC426 which is Comodo Security and xlclient is ZoneAlarm Firewall.

How are you progressing over the pond?

Best regards,

B) Hey Tallin, have been doing a lot of looking and reading first, I have run that 'Startuplite' and that's all so far. Have downloaded 'WinPatrol' and have had a good look at that. I,m slightly confused as to were/in what that I should disable process's? I have read back through the posts etc.... Now do I do this in ' WinPatrol' ? or should it be in 'Task Manager'? or 'misconfig' ? I,m sorry for the continued questions, but I'm trying to nail all this information. :) Cheers

TOMT,

I will put a post together for you a bit later on today, if this one does not suffice as I have appointments booked this morning.

Basically you follow your Quick Access attached to your TaskManager as advised before, then follow Post #23 to access your Services, and most of all post# 29 from "Do remember" onwards when you change anything.

Here is a link for you to research what your Services are and how to deal with them. Anything you are not sure of, type in the 'Search area' and follow the codes above (search area) for help and how to deal with them given in Post # 25. I see I gave you this link and instructions how to proceed in Post #25 earlier.

If you are not understanding me as I am in haste here, post back more questions. Have I told you yet, that the only question that is stupid, is the one you do not ask.

Good luck until later.

Greetings TOMT, Take your time, only you can make the decisions now by doing exactly what you are doing when time permits. Yes, by all means, keep in touch. Have you been to OZ? I have been to Auckland once for three days, but ions ago. NZ is much like OZ, we both breed good Merino sheep and thoroughbred racehorses........the business I was in for many a year. Best regards,

Hi All, Well it took a while ( Been waiting for the kits to arrive in NZ since I started this thread) but I have finally managed to upgrade my PC. I have installed this 2G kit by crucial "CT2KIT12864Z40B" Specs: DDR PC3200 • CL=3 • UNBUFFERED • NON-ECC • DDR400 • 2.6V • 128Meg x 64. The old girl has perked up with this in her lolololol. I have managed to tweak my Internet as well which has improved my upload/download speeds, but alas my video is still not good! I played a dvd the other day and it was a waste of time..... Online clips are better but not smooth, sound is all over the place as well, All drivers have been updated, and have cleaned the dust bunnies out but..... Could it be that my graphics card has given up? I have run PC Pitstop several times and it comes up with that my 2d graphics are way way low. I do recall back about 3-4months after I bought this system that the PC shut herself down due to heat.... Is there another way to test the card? or am I on the wrong track here? card is: NVIDIA GeForce FX5700LE Cheers
