Sorry to interfere here gentlemen...

I was wondering if the recurring "anyname".exe in the Windows\temp folder has a "doggie" for it's file icon?

If so, it's not malware. I believe it's related to this software:

O23 - Service: OfficeScanNT RealTime Scan (ntrtscan) - Trend Micro Inc. - C:\OfficeScan NT\ntrtscan.exe

I have an example from someone I helped a while back still on my machine. I'll look to see if it's 169k as you've described.

Again.... Please pardon my intrusion....

Hello Micah_6:8 Thank you for your comment. Yes, the file in the c:\windows\temp folder does have a "doogie" for it's file icon. If you are correct, once I return home, I will run msconfig and inhibit (untick) c:\officeScan NT\ntrtscan.exe to see if it then disappears. Hopefully, you will be correct and my problem will be solved. Thanks again for your suggestion. Regards, Marty

The example file I have is 168k long.

Here is the link to the thread where I first encountered this:

They also had Officescan on their machine.

Hello LDTate and Micah_6.8
I unloaded AVG Free, booted into Safe made and ran AFT Cleaner and System Security Suite to ensure the windows\temp folder was empty. Then rebooted back into normal mode and checked contents of temp folder: found "anyname.exe" with "doggie" icon (169Kb) had reloaded into it.
Ran msconfig and unticked "avgcc" but whenever I rebooted it reloaded and reappeared in the startup.
I think it is just a piece left over from deleting AVG Free antivirus software and not malware???
Meanwhile, the computer (laptop) is running much better and I think it is probably clear of any other malwear. Your final comment would be appreciated. Regards, Marty.

Good Job

Log looks good :D  How is it running any issues?

Note: This will remove all previous Restore Points

Turn off System Restore:

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Restart your computer, turn it back on.

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Remove the Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Check "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, Uncheck "Show hidden files and folders."
Check "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.

If you dont have these three programs I would recommend that you get them. Spywareblaster, Spywareguard and IESPY AD. They will add 1000's of sites to your resticted zone and block some hijacks from happening. I also have a FREE FIREWALL and FREE ANTI VIRUS if you need one.

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system.

Keep your system up to date and run Adaware & Spybot, once a week works, and hopefully you will be ok from here on. Both are available below.

Safe Surfing. :D

I would also suggest you read this:
So how did I get infected in the first place?

Hello LDTate and Micah_6:8 Thanks for those final instructions which I followed through and created a new restore point. Micah_6:8 I don't think I need to e-mail a copy of anyname.exe for disecting because as you say, it is part of AVG Free. To both of you my heartfelt thanks. In particular to LDTate for sticking with me through to the end (some 43 postings). Many thanks from a Kiwi (New Zealand). :wavey:
