Backup your Registry...
- Press "CTRL - ALT - DEL" keys all at the same time to start "Task Manager"
- In the Task Manager window click on "File", then from the drop-down menu select "New Task (Run...)"
- In the "Create New Task" window enter\type "regedit" (without quotes)
- Once Regedit opens click on the FILE menu and select Export
- Save the file as backup. Save the file somewhere you will remember and not delete.
IMPORTANT: make sure to set the export range to ALL



I recommend you download RegSeeker. Extract it to it's own folder, open and double click RegSeeker.exe to start the program. Maximize the window and click clean registry. Check all sections and click OK. When the scan is complete, verify the backup box in lower left corner is checked and click the select all button, then select all again. Then right click within the search results and select delete. Run it again and again, deleting everything it finds until it finds nothing. Reboot and make sure your programs are working properly, control panel and add/remove programs windows open, etc (basically just do a quick check of everything). In the event anything was 'broken', you can open RegSeeker, click backups and double click any/all files to put the information back. A reboot may be required for the effects to be seen. Reboot When done.

I really hope I didn't mess up, but...... I ran the scan a total of 41 times!!! The last 38 of those, it continued to find the same files over and over again. So I gave up and stopped. Those files were: HKEY_CURRENT_USER Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main Local Page C:\WINDOWS\system32\blank.htm HKEY_CURRENT_USER Sioftware\Microsoft\windows\ShellNoRoam/MUICache C:\documents and Settings\HP_Administrator\My Documents\?ymantec\m?hta.exe HEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main Local Page %systemRoot%\system32\blank.htm So how bad of a mistake was it for me to give up??? Any suggestions?

Open C:\documents and Settings\HP_Administrator\My Documents\?ymantec\m?hta.exe <--Delete this file if found and ONLY if spelled m?hta.exe with the ?

Do the same for this one:
C:\documents and Settings\HP_Administrator\My Documents\?ymantec <--Delete folder ONLY if spelled ?ymantec with the ?

Empty recycle bin and reboot.

The file nor the folder exist through my computer on windows. Went into DOS mode and did a search, and the file is showing up in system32 and system32\dllcache. Now what. The computer is running better, still get the popup balloon and spybott s&d, adware, etc are still finding things on occassion.

Click on Open Misc Tools
Click on Delete a File On Reboot
Click once on the file below to select it:
C:\WINDOWS\ALCXMNTR.EXE



Click on the Back button to exit Process Manager

Now, back at the main screen of HijackThis, proceed to Scan.
and put a check by these.

Close ALL windows and browsers except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"

Reboot and Copy/Paste a new HJT log.

Ok, I did the above instructions. Below you will find my new HiJackThis log. But when I went to C:\windows to delete the file, I saw many files I didn't recognize.

Realtek AC97 Audio - Event Monitor. "Slyware" file used surreptitiously monitor one's actions. It is not a sinister one, like remote control programs, but it is being used by Realtek to gather data about customers

Checks with Sun's Java updates site to see if newer Java versions are available.

AutoTBar
If you disable the HP VIEW toolbar in IE and rarrange the toolbars on a reboot they will be back as they were before if this is left enabled

No.... LOL, I fell like a real DUH, just put my mouse over top of it and it says Windows Security Alerts. Is there anything else i need to do. do you think its all cleaned up? I have printouts from the self help area entitled "Securing Your PC After An Attack"
