When you kindly helped me out last week you advised me to download various programs to avoid a repeat of the problems I've had. It was late in the night overhere when we finished so I did not have a chance to load those.

I have been away for a few days so did not use the computer however my wife has used the computer today without us having installed the new programs. Norton has posted alerts saying howiper.exe is on the computer and the repair has failed it also said that csyqb.exe was on and was deleted

I have posted the new log below but have noticed in posts of other users that they have reference to hidden files. Should I do something to show hidden files before doing the scan - if so what


The pc does not appear to be slow - however I notice that when I log on to the internet it shows a page from Jan 26 rather than today

You may want to print out these instructions for reference, since you will have to restart your computer during the fix.

Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:
http://downloads.sub.../Fixwareout.exe
http://swandog46.gee.../Fixwareout.exe

Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, then make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish. The fix will begin; follow the prompts. You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so. Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.

When your system reboots, follow the prompts
Afterwards, HijackThis will launch. Please click Scan, and check the following items

O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{85A6CCF1-DBC5-44FE-8C9A-6D4B48B1B7F1}: NameServer = 85.255.115.110 85.255.112.139


Then click Fix Checked
Close HijackThis, and click OK to proceed.

At the end of the fix, you may need to restart your computer again.

Finally, please post a fresh HijackThis log, along with the contents of the logfile C:\fixwareout\report.txt

Now lets check some settings on your system.
(2000/XP) Only
In the windows control panel. If you are using Windows XP's Category View, select the Network and Internet Connections category otherwise double click on Network Connections. Then right click on your default connection, usually local area connection for cable and dsl, and left click on properties. Click the Networking tab. Double-click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item and select the radio dial that says Obtain DNS servers automatically
Press OK twice to get out of the properties screen and reboot if it asks.
That option might not be avaiable on some systems
Next Go start run type cmd and hit OK
type
ipconfig /flushdns
then hit enter, type exit hit enter
(that space between g and / is needed)

Ran the Fixwareout and inadvertently pressed scan and save log rather than just scan . The 017 HKLM..... entry did not appear. Ran the Fixwareout again and this time the scan only - again the 017 HKLM....did not appear so I couldn't check it. Logs are copied below

Seems Fine - the internet connection default is now showing the current date Is there any particular reason why I should have been infected again so quickly or is it just that we didn't manage to remove it completely last time. Yes, they will help.


Log looks good

Note: This will remove all previous Restore Points

Turn off System Restore:

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Restart your computer, turn it back on.

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Remove the Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Click Start> My Computer, select the Tools menu and then Folder Options, after the new window appears select the View tab…]
This time select the: Restore Defaults
Select: Apply, and click OK




If you dont have these three programs I would recommend that you get them. Spywareblaster, Spywareguard and IESPY AD. They will add 1000's of sites to your resticted zone and block some hijacks from happening. I also have a FREE FIREWALL and FREE ANTI VIRUS if you need one.

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system.

Keep your system up to date and run Adaware & Spybot, once a week works, and hopefully you will be ok from here on. Both are available below.

What is the location that Norton's say howiper was detected

This is where it has always been identified - seems that when I ran the microsoft antispyware and now the spywareguard that it prompts the Norton alert when the scan reaches the windows\system32 section

i've posted the hijack log below in the hope this helps you.

To give you some more information - I didn't get the last of your messages last night about settingthe sytem restore until I logged on again ealier this evening. IU did the system restore actions then - not sure if that is relevant

I also noticed that the default internet browser screen was showing yesterday's date and not today's

Double-click blbeta.exe then accept the agreement.
click > scan then > next,
You'll see a list of all items found.
Don't choose for rename yet! I want to see the log first, because legit items can also be present there...
There must be also a log on your desktop with the name fsbl.xxxxxxx.log (the xxxxxxx stand for numbers)
Post the contents of the log in your next reply together with a new hijackthislog.
