I have opened a call with Sophos support to see if they can assist.
will let you know how I get on

OK please let me know.

In the mean time I'd use this free Anti-Virus program:
Click the link and Download, Install, Update and run a full scan

Hi, sorry it took so long to get back to you. With the help of Sophos support I've got my anti-virus up and running again. I've run adaware and spybot s&d and used regseeker to remove the registry key SYSTEM/ControlSet002/Control/Print/Providers/lanman print services/ideskbar I rebooted machine and used regseeker to find the ideskbar key it showed up again as previously so it must re-install itself during shutdown or startup. I think that my machine is working correctly most times but what can i do about this ideskbar? is it safe to just leave it or does it have to go? thanks Dave

The IDeskBar interface provides methods that enable you to manipulate a desk bar.

I don't think it's hurting anything. We can try and get rid of it if you like.

How's the PC running?

Hi, if it's not going to hurt I'll leave it there. the PC is performing well but something is still stopping access to the Internet after about 90 minutes. I can live with this as it only takes a reboot to sort out. thanks for all your help on this. Dave

Restart your computer, turn it back on.

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Remove the Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Click Start> My Computer, select the Tools menu and then Folder Options, after the new window appears select the View tab…]
This time select the: Restore Defaults
Select: Apply, and click OK

If you dont have these three programs I would recommend that you get them. Spywareblaster, Spywareguard and IESPY AD. They will add 1000's of sites to your resticted zone and block some hijacks from happening. I also have a FREE FIREWALL and FREE ANTI VIRUS if you need one.

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system.

Keep your system up to date and run Adaware & Spybot, once a week works, and hopefully you will be ok from here on. Both are available below.

Safe Surfing. :D

I would also suggest you read this:
