Problem with Windows 7 recognizing usb receivers...

mouse

Best Answer terry1966 , 01 May 2015 - 01:01 AM

seeing how no usb devices work then i think i'd be looking at a power issue with the usb ports or on the 5v rail of the psu. this is hp's usb troubleshooting guide run through it and see if anything solves your problems. :- http://support.hp.co...... Go to the full post

i started with those 3, after the first i clicked the 2nd to uninstall. as it started the wireless mouse began. then windows began d'loading new drivers. then it rebooted on it's own and nothing worked, corded mouse and kb had no lights and i had no navigation. after a cpl restarts i got the system check? it was shut down wrong and needed to be ran. i clicked yes and it fixed on it's own but now kb is out and using dt kb again. is it possible the 1st controller was the one because that's when mouse started...2nd controller i deleted was 1 of 2 intel chip set controllers...it seemed to freeze up and stop which is when it all crashed. the one cotroller was all i needed to do?

ok, i don't know what i did except change the usb port my kb was in and it came up as working and am using it now. i went back into device mgr. and uninstalled just the one Etron USB 3.0 Extensible Host Controller and rebooted and windows reloaded it on reboot. i don't know what to do now to get this mouse working. this link has a post...the 5th down which seems to have worked for most but i'm not sure how to. if it makes any sense and if one of you could walk me through it...i'll hang up and listen! thanks.

which part of the instructions are you having trouble with?

  • Browse to 'C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\usb.inf_amd64_neutral_e2b28ecac19a29af'
  • Copy usb.inf and usb.PNF to 'C:\Windows\INF\'
  • Update drive on unknown devices
  • -- In Device Manager, right-click and select Properties
  • -- Select Driver tab
  • -- Click 'Update Driver' button
  • -- Select 'Browse my computer for driver software'
  • -- Enter 'C:\Windows\INF\' in the Search for driver software in this location field and click Next

usb.inf_amd64_neutral_e2b28ecac19a29af may be slightly different on your pc but will start with usb.inf_amd64_neutral

ok, y'all have fun with this one! sitting here really just disgusted with logitech. i had picked up this new mouse and thought you just may very well never amount to a dayam thing. this happens frequent to me and i admit i usually like it. i doze off...i don't care where i will see y'all later! a bump startled me and wondered what that was as i was looking down, was this mouse. i picked it up and set it on the desk to move on in my happy times when i sat it down i saw the cursor move! i grabbed it and sure enough it's working. this shows the receiver as still in a coma, yet it shows the mouse under the mice tab. i did see a lot of change in the HID branch and the usb controllers. again guys, thanks for stopping in and helping. i guess my contribution to repay my help is when someone comes in with a mouse/driver problem just tell them i said to wiggle the plug, then drop the mouse to the floor and it'll be alright. seriously...all i did was read about one who was told to unplug it and it would fix. it didn't come back on fixed, but it wasn't long after. :pepsi:  wow_zpsgrcvt7ne.jpg

sorry no idea what your talking about downloading anything, nowhere in the post does it say download anything and i certainly wouldn't trust any random persons download files anyway, they may be full of malware.

how to copy and paste :- http://windows.micro...nd-paste-a-file

also terry, i went back to the usb controllers and i selected to disable the Etron USB 3.0 Extensible Host Controller was that ok? do i leave it that way or enable it?

no you need that enabled for the usb3 ports to work.

i guess the file he links to is if mine is missing right?

sorry you lost me there, the file he copies usb.inf and usb.PNF into is C:\Windows\INF\ you saying you don't have a INF folder in the Windows folder?

added these to show i have added the files to the folder but get same results.

usb3_zpszd1rwrfq.jpgusb2_zpsjte0zsht.jpgusb_zpsxxo0fnhk.jpg

you have not copied the files to 'C:\Windows\INF\'

both those pics show you in C:\Windows\DriverStore\FileRepository\

also no idea why in one pic. you have 2 usb.inf folders and in the other one you only have 1.

so it's working correctly now anyway?

i'd still want to fix the the things with the yellow exclamation marks and the 2 unknown devices, but if it's working and your happy then it's up to you if you want to continue or call it fixed.

ok, in that thread somewhere one of the posters had a link "this file" led to a usb,inf file. it appears it was for those who didn't have them at all. i guess i was misleading and sorry for that...in the pics i was copying from there, i pasted them in C:\Windows\inf\. when i would open DM and select update driver and browse my pc i'd get the browse for folder window and enter that destination it wouldn't exist. i don't know what made the change for the mouse to work.the only thing i did was disconnect the power. in DM the receiver is still dead and when i do like this all says to install...i still get windows could not update drivers. i checked and the files are in the folders. as for the unknown devices showing i don't know what they are and in the properties/details it lists 4 HID on each. mouse and keyboard both show and are working. as for the 3 in network adapters...wifi now is questioned, i have tried to get those corrected and can't. it's all working right, but if there's indicarors something is wrong i'd like to correct it. thanks again

copying the usb files is what i think got things working for you, no idea why it said C:\Windows\INF didn't exist unless it is case sensitive and needed to be C:\Windows\inf (didn't think the windows os took any notice of file name case though.) the unplugging it and plugging it back in got it to then install the correct driver for it which you'd copied into the correct location.

anything with an exclamation mark means there is something wrong, so there shouldn't be devices with an icon by it or any unknown devices listed in device manager.

hid is human interface device, and is usually the mouse or/and keyboard.

i think i'd uninstall both unknown devices and see if they reappear on a reboot.

i'd need to know what the error codes are for the devices with the yellow warning sign to see if we can fix whatever is wrong with them.

again i think first i'd just uninstall those devices and reboot and see what then shows up in device manager and if there's any warning icons by anything.

ok terry and thanks again. i apologize terry for not being as clear as i need be in this, i wouldn't think caps would matter and don't think it did...i tried with INF at the end of that string first and it said it couldn't locate that directory. then i tried inf and that's when it prompted that windows couldn't locate drivers. something here is right but also wrong. i think windows is reading something right but something is still wrong because i notice now two kb's show in DM under keyboards one is located on the usb logitech download assistant, the other is usb..i may be wrong but, the two keyboards it shows showed up at the same time the unknown devices, now under their properties it shows they are functioning properly yet under drivers tab it says driver doesn't exist or is needed. crazy huh? now the usb receiver with ! on it under properties says no drivers are downloaded (code 28). i may lose this mouse function again for now but i'm uninstalling the unknowns and rebooting to see what i get there and will reply.

also the three microsoft products under networks the top two under properties lists cannot start (code 10)...it lists drivers but under the adv. tab is missing a value. the miniport under properties shows windows stopped the device for reported problems (code 43), it also shows drivers under that tab. doing as you instructed on the others and rebooting.

ok post 8 from here should solve the teredo code 10 problems:- http://forums.techgu...dapter-has.html

or this :- http://answers.micro...74-6800c5191604

as for the code 28  try install the unifying software now from logitech site :-  http://support.logit...e-m510#download

and see if that will resolve that one, if not then i'd try uninstalling both keyboards and seeing if it now only installs one on reboot.

after trying those fixes can you post a pictures of the details of any devices showing problems so i can get a better understanding of what your telling me.

the miniport with the code 43 for example? not your fault i don't always follow along, it's just i have a bad memory and don't have a windows os up and running to help jog my memory and see what your seeing in device manager, but again for code 43 i would make sure i uninstalled every device under the usb controllers tab, and don't restart the pc until they have all been uninstalled first, on restart it will take a while to load them all back but with luck that should fix it.

use a ps2 mouse and not a usb mouse to do this otherwise as soon as you've uninstalled the hub or controller the usb mouse is connected to then it will stop working and you won't be able to uninstall the others before the pc restarts itself.

so if you only have a usb mouse your going to have to do it a few times, making a note of and leaving till last the categories that stop the mouse from working when uninstalled.
