they sat down to play blackjack at a casino and it was the casino who had lost money.
Four jolly men sat down to play,
And played all night till break of day.
They played for cash and not for fun,
With a separate score for every one.
When it came time to square accounts,
they all had made quite fair amounts.
Now, not one has lost and all have gained -
Tell me now, this can you explain?

It doesn't say they were playing cards or doing any kind of gambling. They could have been playing music. How about a string quartet playing for hire?

It doesn't say they were playing cards or doing any kind of gambling. They could have been playing music. How about a string quartet playing for hire?

Im with TomK on this one , except I dont think it necessarily needs to be a string quartet, any 4 member band hired for a function ( and a good one if they played all night! ).
