sk2200,

I see that you continue to have a problem. I may have missed something.

Please Click on Start in the lower left of your screen.

Click on Run.

In the window that opens, please paste the following:
regedit.exe /e "%userprofile%\Desktop\myfile.txt" "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\shared tools\msconfig\startupreg"

Click on OK

A file will appear on your desktop called myfile.txt

Please attache that file to your next reply.

sk2200, I need you to do one more thing for me. I need you to attach myfile.txt to your post rather than copy/paste it.

sk2200,

Backup Your Registry with ERUNT
  • Download ERUNT from here and save it to your desktop.
  • Right-click erunt.zip, choose Extract All... and follow the prompts to unzip the program
  • Open the erunt folder on your Desktop and double-click ERUNT.exe to start the program
  • OK all the prompts to back up your registry to the default location.
Note:
The backups can be restored from here:
C:\windows\ERDNT\<todays date>\ERDNT.exe

Please download the attached file, Fix.zip and expand Fix.reg to your desktop.

Double-click Fix.reg on your Desktop. When it asks if you want to merge the info to the registry, hit YES/OK. Reboot the computer.

Then please let me know if anything works differently.

sk2200, Please look again. The file I attached was not allowed by forum constraints. I had to .zip it. I modified the post while you were posting.

sk2200,

Go ahead and delete fix.zip and fix.reg from your desktop

These instructions look similiar to what Tallin already had you do. However, after the fix.reg ran, maybe they will work.

  • Ensure that the Cryptographic Services service is running on your computer. To do this, open Control Panel> Administrative Tools> Services. Select Cryptographic Service from the list of names. Right-click this service and select Properties. If the service is not shown as "Started", you can start it by clicking the Start button. You should also set the Startup type to Automatic so that it will be running when needed in future. Close the Services control panel and try installing the service pack or security patch.
  • If the Cryptographic Services service was already running, stop the service by clicking the Stop button. Using Windows Explorer, locate the folder C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 and rename it to something like xcatroot. Now restart Cryptographic Services by clicking the Start button, and try installing the service pack or security patch again.
  • If the service pack or security patch still fails to install, stop the Cryptographic Services service again. Open a command prompt window (click Start> Run> type cmd and hit Enter) and then type the following commands:
regsvr32 softpub.dll
regsvr32 wintrust.dll
regsvr32 initpki.dll
regsvr32 dssenh.dll
regsvr32 rsaenh.dll
regsvr32 gpkcsp.dll
regsvr32 sccbase.dll
regsvr32 slbcsp.dll
regsvr32 cryptdlg.dll

Restart Cryptographic Services by clicking the Start button again, and try installing the service pack or security patch once more.

Please let me know how you go.
