I'm having that same problem of not finding either of the "MTP" / "USB Mass Storage Device" which the guy mentioned. I think that once you install windows updates, you might receive one of those drivers. I have windows sp2 but it is not genuine therefore i can't receive any updates. You could try it on yours and see if it works. At the moment I'm using my friends laptop to store music on to it and his had Vista ultimate. Seems as though these S3 devices have a better chance of working on vista rather than xp. But as I said, give it a try.

Hi all, Just to tell you I found really useful this thread. And I felt really reassured seeing other people with the same problem. My story with Samsung S3 was like this: it worked fine, it connected with no problem. After one month I had to reinstall my OS and somebody advised to turn off Windows automatic update. I have done it and, surprise, XP seemed not to see my S3 any longer. Of course in the meantime I had to do all my stuff in the office (upload music etc). Home I turned on the update option, it took me really ages to have some updates installed for nothing. I wasted I think 2 evenings ... Well, I don't want to tell you long stories, tonight I installed WMP11 (I had WMP9 before). And now the system can see the MP3 player. I recall now, everytime during those 2 wasted evenings I postponed installing the update for WMP ... In conclusion, first of all, just try to update your Windows Media Player. Best regards, Adrian

Hi adrians,

If you are going to turn off Windows Updates (which incidently I advise because you will not then receive updates you do not want) please make sure you access the Windows Update site once a month after the second Tuesday in the month to choose just what updates you require, otherwise as you know you system is vunerable.

I am glad you have updated to Windows Media Player 11 as you will now not be vulnerable as before.

Best regards,

Hi, I have the same problem. I got a Samsung S3 player last weekend. I installed the software, plugged it in, but my computer keeps saying that the "New hardware found - but a problem with the installation". I tried everything here in this thread, but nothing seems to work.. If i go to device manager, i see a red cross on MTP Device. If i turn it in, and i install the drivers, the red cross comes again after a while.. Can somebody help me?

Posted Image Logetch,

Due to the stress that others have had with the Samsung S3 player, it maybe a wise decision to return it to where you purchased it, then choose another that is known to work with your OS.

But I tested it today on a Vista OS of a friend, and there it worked perfectly. And bringing it back is no option, because it was a birthday-gift and it comes from Spain, and not from Belgium where I live.

Logitech,

Well that is bad luck. Can you test it on a friends system running XP? If you can and it works, then we know it is your system's configuration that is at fault.

The only other suggestion is for you to do a SFC Scan here to make sure your OS has no missing .dll files, but you need your registered OS to accomplish the scan correctly.

Best regards,

Logitech, There is no report when your OS files are correct after doing the test. The only other option is to test the player on a friends XP OS running system and post back with those results. Best regards,

:pullhair: HELP!!! My Samsung YP-S3 won't turn on and is stuck with a screen that reads Automatic Test F/W v1.11. I tried and I reseted multiple times ....it acts like it is trying to reboot but then ends up back on the same screen. I let the battery uncharge completely then charged it completely. I was able to look through the menus but it still would not power off and went back to the Automatic Test screen again...help !!!!!! :pullhair: Thx 2 all the responds! Cheers!

Hi all, Sorry to hear you've had so many problems with the Samsung mp3 player. I used to have a Samsung mp3 player and found it excellent. Sadly i would be making guesses at fixing the problem since i've not got one of those types, however i'd right click my computer and go to 'manage' and check the local disks and see if they are assigned a drive letter that is not in use. Hope this helps some, 'Bob
