Hi Shelf life:

I am back online now and I tried the latest CFScript the way you told me too and it still doesn't work. I saved it with the quotation marks and when I tried to run the CFScript with the Combofix it said it was spelled incorrectly. I did however have to download a new copy of Combo fix because it said my other one was out of date so here is a copy of the current combofix log.

I will look forward to your response and thanks again for your help!

hi pierce,

ok you are back. must be something wrong with my script then. since its been awhile we can delete combofix and get a new copy, as its updated.
you can delete the current copy like this:

start>run>type in combofix /u
note: hit space bar after typing the "x"

new copy:
Please download ComboFix (by sUBs) from one of the following links:

http://www.techsuppo...Bs/ComboFix.exe

http://download.blee...Bs/ComboFix.exe

Save it to the Desktop.
Double-click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.

CAUTION: Do not mouse-click ComboFix's window while it is running.
It may cause it to stall.

When finished, it produces a log.

Please provide the contents of the ComboFix log in your reply and a new hjt log also since its been awhile.

Hi Shelf life

Here is a copy of the hijack this log and the combofix log as you requested. Hopefully we are making progress. Just to let you know whenever I run a combofix log my virus protection pops up and tells me that I have a trojan virus but it says that it cannot be deleted. Just an FYI. Alright well I will wait for your response.

Thanks,
Pierce

hi,

ok thanks for the info. is your antivirus up to date?
lets do this. might want to copy paste this into notepad and save it so you can find it in safe mode.
we will look for and delete some files in safe mode.

to show all files:

FOr XP: on the desktop double click my computer,go to tools>folder options>view> then select "show hidden files and folders", then UNcheck "hide protected operating system files " also UNcheck "hide extensions for known file types" click apply to all folders, apply then ok

to reach safe mode you would tap the f8 key during a computer restart. chose the first option on the list safe mode:

once in safe mode:

navigate to: C:\WINDOWS\system32
look for and delete the .dll: aivskurq.dll

navigate to: C:\Documents and Settings\Bob Carrick\
and delete the .exe: winmain.exe

while you are in safe mode run your antivirus, spybot and superantispyware once, then reboot normally
---------------------------
once back in regular mode we can get a file checked out
go to this website:
http://www.virustotal.com/
click the browse button

then navigate to and find this .exe:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\system.exe
click the send button
the file will be checked out, post the results back. i have a feeling its bad since its a startup item
if it is then you can boot back into safe mode and delete it.

also do a online scan here:

F-secure scan:
http://support.f-sec.../home/ols.shtml

uses Internet Explorer only

click on the "start scanning button" near bottom of page.
click to accept/install the ActiveX applet
"accept" the License Agreement, click "full system scan"
Once the download completes, the scan will begin automatically.Download may take awhile
The scan will take some time to finish.
When the scan completes, click the Automatic cleaning (recommended) button.

Click the Show Report button and Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply along with a current HijackThis log.

Hi Shelf life: Ok I went to safe mode and was able to delete aivskurq.dll, but I didn't find winmain.exe under C:\Documents and Settings\Bob Carrick\. So I did a scan and Superantispyware found and deleted 38 items, but my virus protection didn't find anything. But I know there is still a trojan because a warning pops up saying that it cannot be deleted. I went to virustotal.com and browse for the file C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\system.exe, but in the system32 folder all of the file extensions are .sys and I didn't have one named system anyway. So now I am doing the F-secure scan and will post the results back along with a hijackthis log. I did notice however that my computer now seems slower than it did and the heading at the top of internet explorer has all squares again and doesn't show the name of the website you are on. So just wanted to let you know that. Alright, well I will wait for your response. Thanks, Pierce

hi pierce,

ok thanks for the info. we will use hjt again, but first disable any real time protection that might be running: these directions are somewhat old but still should be helpful:

1. Run Spybot-S&D in Advanced Mode.
2. If it is not already set to do this Go to the Mode menu select "Advanced Mode"
3. On the left hand side, Click on Tools
4. Then click on the Resident Icon in the List
5. Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts.
6. Restart your computer.

. Launch Windows Defender
2. Click Tools > General Settings
3. Under Realtime Protection Options uncheck "Turn on real real-time protection (recommended)".
4. Click the Save button
5. Close Windows Defender
----------------------------------------------
start HJT, click the "Scan" button. check the items below, close any open windows, then click "Fixed checked"

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ShowLOMControl]
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [main] C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\system.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\RunOnce: [sysinit] C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\system.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\RunOnce: [winmz] C:\Documents and Settings\Bob Carrick\winmain.exe
---------------------------------------
next another download to run:

Download SDFix and save it to your Desktop.

http://downloads.and...Tools/SDFix.exe

Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%
(Drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix)

Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :

* Restart your computer
* After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
* Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Advanced Options Menu should appear;
* Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter.
* Choose your usual account.

* Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
* Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
* It will remove any Trojan Services and Registry Entries that it finds then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
* Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
* When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
* Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt
(Report.txt will also be copied to Clipboard ready for posting back on the forum).
* Finally paste the contents of the Report.txt back on the forum with a new HijackThis log
--------------------------------
last: please repeat the F-secure online scan.

hi,

Hope you had a Happy Thanksgiving!!

thank you.

Do you think we are close to getting this problem fixed?

iam trying.some malware is getting much more invasive than it use to be and harder and harder to get rid of.

---------------------------------------
remember that combofix we ran, you can delete it like this:

go to start>run and type in combofix /u then click ok
note: there is a space after the "x' in combofix

first:
please do a online scan here and post the results:

F-secure scan:
http://support.f-sec.../home/ols.shtml

uses Internet Explorer only

click on the "start scanning button" near bottom of page.
click to accept/install the ActiveX applet
"accept" the License Agreement, click "full system scan"
Once the download of files completes, the scan will begin automatically.
The scan may take some time to finish.
When the scan completes, click the Automatic cleaning (recommended) button.

Click the Show Report button and Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply along with a current HijackThis log.

last:
get the latest version of combofix and run it also:

Please download ComboFix (by sUBs) from one of the following links:

http://www.techsuppo...Bs/ComboFix.exe

http://download.blee...Bs/ComboFix.exe

Save it to the Desktop.
Double-click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.

CAUTION: Do not mouse-click ComboFix's window while it is running.
It may cause it to stall.

When finished, it produces a log.

Please provide the contents of the ComboFix log in your reply--

hi pierce, thanks for all the info. looks much better this time around. looks like you installed avg antivirus? you already have Defender Pro Anti-Virus. one or two anti-malware apps is ok, but you only need one anti-virus on your computer. two isnt better than one in this case. i would remove one via the add/remove programs panel. logs look ok. hows it looking on your end now? shelf life
