Hello Doug,
I am very sorry for my post was not thinking at the time i was a little on the sleepy side. I just seen that someone was having a problem and i know that this solution works for all most every laptop. Again I apologize and it will not happen again. By your response it seems that there are some high caliber folks here, you could have defiantly handle that situation different but instead kept a professional attitude. I would just like to say thanks and i will return to hopefully lend some of my knowledge.

Best Regards,
Digital Outlaw

to the person with the problem

Most laptops use synaptics for the touchpads and touchsticks by default you cant disable them when you use a USB mouse. However if you goto http://www.synaptics...support/drivers and download the driver pack for your operating system you can disable the touchpad and/or touch stick. After downloading the driver of you choice you will need to restart you computer. When you computer restarts a dialog box should appear. In the lower left corner you need to uncheck the box so the dialog will not keep coming up. Then click on control panel>> then Mouse>> then click the top tab with the red Synaptics logo. On this screen you will see if you have any synaptics devices if it shows any devices then you can click on that device and disable it. There are also other options that might come in handy if you want to change how sensitive your touchpad is. You can also disable the synaptics logo out of the notification area of the task bar.

I finally got this to work by going to:
http://www.synaptics...support/drivers
and download and install the driver for your computer.

Then open the mouse properties, go to the new Device Setting and Disable your Touchpad.

Works great :)

Is there a function key on your laptop? I know it sounds obvious but I had trouble with one of my computers touchpads not working. I realised instead of muting the sound I disabled the touchpad. On my laptop (which is an Acer) to enable/disable the touchpad I press the Fn key along with the F7 key which has an icon of a finger inside a box to represent the touchpad controls as shown here:

I tried everything with no succcess but this worked like a dream. On my laptop I held the Fn key and pressed the F6 key and it disabled the touch pad. Just repeat to turn it back on. Thank You, Thank You.

Instead of any hardware of software changes we can use simple shortcut key to Disable Tochpad in laptop.

Not all the models have the same shortcut key. But you can check them randomly (Ex: ‘Fn+F1’, Fn+F2…Fn+F12). One of them must disable your touchpad.

It's been 5+ years since this thread started and no one has the answer. I have tried all of the suggestions here and a couple of others from other forums. Sony corp. has been no help. I now have 4 laptops (mine and friends) with this problem. VERY irritating when the mouse jumps to another field and you overtype info you just entered! Surely, some one has an answer??? GB..

Hi GB9130,

Welcome to the WTT forums.

Not sure what you mean here, lots have folks have been able to disable their touchpads.....

If its a problem with your own computer, then it may be best to start your own topic, and provide as much information as possible so one of our members or technicians can stand the best chance of helping you..eg:

1 make and model number of computer
2 Operating system installed
3 A full description of the problem you need help with (symptoms etc)
4 What steps you have tried already and the results if any.

Regards
