Are you still having the no sound problem currently? Press Start|Run, type devmgmt.msc, and press Enter. Make sure there are no red x's or yellow !'s anywhere in the device manager, specifically in the Sound, video, and game controllers section

You are correct, it should not be listed there. The reason it is listed there is because Windows can't find a driver for the device. The driver may have been inadvertently deleted. Do you have original installation disks for your computer? If so, usually they come with a CD with the drivers included. Otherwise, what type of computer do you have?

Ooops! sorry Ax. Thought your were pulling the plug. I'll come back to check in in about 30 minutes, and will follow up if any more attention is required. Congrats on an excellent fix with the Boot.ini matter. ________ When an item appears in "other devices" with yellow warning, it most often indicates that the specific driver is not installed. Does your machine have "integrated sound" or a separate PCI Sound card?

If so, usually they come with a CD with the drivers included. Otherwise, what type of computer do you have? well it says powered by ASUS on the front of it on a little sticker thing.. celeron 2.40ghz , 768 RAM.

Does your machine have "integrated sound" or a separate PCI Sound card? to be honest i would not have a clue sorry :(

@dough: sorry...this is the last one, honest ;)

@Lochy: Go to http://www.pcpitstop...top/default.asp and run the PC Pitstop Full Tests. Please create an account and post the TechExpress Link here. From here, we should be able to analyze your system and determine what drivers are needed.

Have a good night,

Ax

Hi Lochy, Sorry if I've created confusion in your problem solving thread here tonight. I'll hang in to help out with the audio situation. The PCPitstop Full Test that Ax238 recommends is excellent and may help provide the answers you need now. I'll review your results when you post the TechExpress.

Lochy,

the Link we need is "TechExpress"
You'll see a yellowish brown box in the upper right hand corner of any page of your results.
The last item is "Share Results with TECHEXPRESS"

Click on that item.
It will take you to a new page with yellowish-brown highlighted box across the top.

It will look something like this:
[quote]TechExpress link for your current results:
[url=http://www.pcpitstop.com/techexpress.asp?id=1X860WMYBACSVA8J]http://www.pcpitstop.com/techexpress.asp?id=alphanumeric string here

Please copy/paste "all" of that link into your next reply.

Best Regards

Lots of work to be done, even prior to fixing your Audio Problem. I am aware that your initial request was to repair the "Sound" problem, however, your machine currently has some conditions that make Web-Navigation risky to your personal information, and makes "all programs" likely to periodically fail due to settings and condition of the Hard Drive. I am hopeful that you will be patient and realize the need to accomplish these "basic" steps prior to addressing the "Sound" problem. Please tell me, if you do not understand, or if you disagree with doing the basic work first. Bottom line: If we install the Audio Device now, it will likely fail again very soon, as will other applications. I'll wait your reply

OK. The most "crippling" condition is your Hard Drive and how full it is.
You only have 841mb of (Free Space) available.
Windows all by itself needs much more than that.
If you activate "applications" then there is hardly any room left for Windows and Applications to do their work.

You need more Hard Drive (free space)
Ultimately, it would be wise to get an additional Hard Drive and use your current 20gb Hard Drive exclusively for Windows and Security, placing Applications, Data, files and Media on a New Hard Drive.

But let's see what we can do to get you some additional space on the Hard Drive that you have now.

The "most dangerous condition" is your "Browser Tracking Code" presently Active.
This Code "will" give your personally identifying information to "every" website that you visit.
Eventually (within a few minutes of being online" some spyware bot will "find you" and begin setting additional spyware to track and possibly control your browser.

Do you now, or have you or your family ever, used your computer to make online purchases or to do online bill paying or online banking? If so, you will need to consider changing your passwords, and possibly alerting your bank/credit card companies. You should watch your bills and financial records very carefully for unauthorized charges.

I want you to run a HJT right now and post it over to the Malware Removal Forum.
I will keep helping you here, to repair the items mentioned above and others, but I want to get a look at possible Malware problems right away.

Are you familiar with running and posting HJT?
