Hi I would start again, Boot from your Windows CD and follow on screen instructions, if still no joy, take out disc install it as a slave (jumper to slave or cable select) It can be your own machine, another handy one or even use an external caddy or just a USB cable and IDE connector +a 5v power supply. You can use Windows (disc management) or open a command prompt and fdisk it, just like the old DOS days! I'm off to bed now, (nearly midnight here,) let me know how you get on. Regards paws

Hi, Ok Try this: Take all the usual personal safety and anti-static precautions, then: 1 Make sure your old drive is jumpered to Master and the new one to Slave 2 The old drive must be connected to the end connector on the IDE cable 3 The middle connector on the IDE cable must be connected to the Slave (New Drive) Now bootup Windows and wait until the hard drive light stops flickering and all drivers, start up applications and services have loaded. (this could easily take 3 or 4 minutes or so, depending on your system and what loads on startup) 4 Now format the drive 5 Right-click on My Computer and go to "Manage". 6 In the following window, click Disk Management in the left pane. 7 Once it loads, you should see the "Initialize Disk" follow the on-screen directions for this. 8 Partition and format the disk as required (but use NTFS) 9 Make sure you don't convert it to a dynamic disk, (this will anger the Gods). Good luck Regards paws

Ok, updated the Main Block part of the bios, no problem. Didnt try the other two. Stuck the drive back in with the Cable select jumper set. I'm in the exact same spot I was when I started, however.. In disc management, I have 31.49gb of unallocated space. Which means its got no partition on it. I'm not sure where to go on here.. The diagram on the instruction booklet has a Style A2 and a Style S I've been going off of style S just because it was easier to understand.. But that doesnt mean its not neccisarly the right one.. Style A2 has got 2 jumpers on it.. But I can figure out how to put the jumpers in there. Theres a thing that has a normal set up and then in the right corner for example, it looks like theres a one jumper thingy which I cant figure out how to do

Hi. Firstly, congratulations on keeping your cool, most folks would be tearing their hair out by now,... some further thoughts 1 Only use Cable Slect jumper position for your new drive if you also use the new cable. 2 if you use the old cable the new drive must be jumpered to Slave (not Cable Select which will only work with the newer style 80 pin cables and not the old 40 jobs.) 3 You have made progress... I think! In your fist post you said your computer is only seeing the disc as 32Gb, but in your last post you say you have only 31.49Gb of unallocated space!! The difference therefore between the 200Gig and the 31.49Gb must be allocated...Somewhere! If you want to persevere with this, put your new hard drive in a friends modern computer and follow the instructions in my last post. if it works Ok then its your computer that faulty. If it doesn't work then its either operator error or the drive is bad so you will need to send it back (if you do this get them to format it for you! Good luck Regards paws
