No. But if you will please post the link to your HJT Topic, I will follow along (not posting and advising, just following along with what the Expert Advisor has to say) because it could help us here in this Thread's problem solving steps. Best Regards

No need to post the link, I searched.

Does your machine use Windows XP 64-bit Edition?
(I don't see any indication that it does, but some of your applications have reference to 64-bit)

do you actually use - Virtual CD v8\System\VC8SecS.exe and VC8Play.exe

(no offense intended if you do. That would be just fine, but I would therefore explore some issues about it/them)

Do you have the paid version of TuneUp Utilities 2006, or is that a trial version? if so, has it expired?

Best Regards

EDIT: How much (free space) do you have on your Hard Drive?

Hi Siatnan,

Until we dicover what the specific conflict is, you might benefit from this MS article that covers printer and files sharing in the various Windows operating systems.

http://download.micr...FileSharing.doc

Edit: Specifically, Read pages 34 and 35 of the above linked article.

Hi Siatnan, Sorry that article didn't seem to help you. Your proposed project, to share files back and forth between a Win98 machine and a WinXP machine connected by router, is at face-value a simple and reasonable one. In application, that ability depends on a variety of elements and settings including names of computers, IP's, client selection, protocol, workgroup membership, and other factors I'm probably not listing. Since the checklist of elements and settings is long, I wish there was an automated procedure that you could call upon to coordinate the settings. Instead, you have a list of items that you are checking manually. It would be enough to drive me to distraction. Additionally, when reviewing the same information and settings over and over, the details can begin to hide in plane sight. It can be like proof-reading a paper. When the writer of the paper re-reads it to edit any error of detail, the reader's eyes and voice complete the thought, even though there may be a detail of written text that is formed in error. Therefore, the writer may not catch the error because the entire body of the paper makes sense. Often, it is better to have a second person read the script for comment on the mechanics of the presentation. I suppose that is what you hoped for when posting here. Someone else, drawing on their own knowledge and awareness of "most likely mistakes" would quickly identify and repair the settings. Unfortunately I cannot "see" your settings and do not have an encyclopedic knowledge base of this networking question and most likely errors. Therefore I recommended this most recent link to setting up file and print sharing in the various versions of Windows, because that is how I would comb through the information and settings. Home and small office networking should be a simple and straight forward thing, but in my experience, it can be maddening to accomplish. I can only admit defeat of my ability to assist you at this time, and hope that a more knowledgeable Member, or a fresh set of eyes will catch what has been overlooked. I wish you well. Doug

Here's a couple more resources for basic setup of TCP/IP in both Win98 and WinXP.

Since you're able to connect to the Internet with each machine, but not "share files", this may not specifically address your problem, but I was citing these resources for another Member, so thought I'd include them here for you, too.

For Win98 http://www.jmu.edu/c...8se/index.shtml
For WinXP http://support.micro...b/314067/EN-US/

And a list of Command Line utilities used for repairing TCP/IP

Best Regards
