Here are the logs you asked me to post.....About my computer.....It is running ok, but I have to log onto the internet thru my messenger service in order to get to my homepage because www.netspry.com keeps loading when I try to go thru the internet explorer icon on my desktop. Im still leaning towards the expensive move of getting a new computer and tossing this one off that cliff I mentioned in a previous post... Anyways, to make a long story as short as I can, I can see a big difference in how its running. I still want to make sure its completely cleansed though before anything else can go wrong....better to nip things in the bud instead of waiting till its too big and bad a problem to deal with, I think you will agree with that statement. Well, without further ado, the scan logs.....

Ok, here is what I did. I went into my computer's system restore information and turned off the system restore then rebooted. I remember that advice from a previous problem I had with my comp and someone from here said that was a good way to make sure that I didnt accidentally reinstall trojans and viruses back on my computer. Anyway, I will run kaspersky scanner again to make sure the trojans are gone....it had them listed in the system restore files. Figured that was another way to get rid of them too....hope I did the right thing, but will know soon enough. Thanks again for all your help. Tennafa.

Hello Tennafa,

You did alright by turning off the system restore and rebooting. Be sure and turn on the System Restore again then so that new restore points will be created.
  • Right-click My Computer and again click Properties
  • On the Performance tab, click File System
  • Clear the check mark in Disable System Restore check box.
  • System Restore is now be active again.
Disable SpySweeper:
You have SpySweeper installed. While this is a great program, we need to temporarily disable (not uninstall) the program because it might stop our fix.
  • Open it click >Options over to the left then >program options>Uncheck "load at windows startup"
  • Over to the left click "shields" and uncheck all there.
  • Uncheck" home page shield".
  • Uncheck ''automatically restore default without notification".
After all of the fixes are complete it is very important that you enable SpySweeper again.

Scan with HijackThis. Place a check against each of the following:
O2 - BHO: WinPage Blocker - {12DF6E3E-6272-4AE8-880B-2158D60791C0} - C:\Program Files\Homepage\WinPage.dll (file missing)
Close all windows or browsers except for Hijackthis. Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

Post back a fresh HijackThis log and we will take another look and let me know if you are still having problems with the www.netspry.com.

Woohoo! It worked! I also found a netspry listing in the hijackthis log that I just did and I checked that as well as the other file you asked me to check. I then logged in using IE icon on my desktop and I reset my homepage....closed out and reopened......and I got my homepage! Yahoo.....thank you so very very much. Heres the newest hijackthis file minus the bugs we got rid of.....Thank you so very much again......

Good work Tennafa!

Your logs appear to be clean. Please follow the recommendations below:

Do you have a firewall application or are you depending upon the Windows XP firewall? There are firewall applications that are free for personal use and I would recommend using one.

You need to update your Java though because new release just came out.

======
DON’T BECOME OVERCONFIDENT WITH ANTIVIRUS APPLICATIONS INSTALLED!!!

http://forum.malware...39eba6ea0b5e8ee

Stay up to date on security patches and be extremely wary of clicking on links and attachments that arrive unbidden in instant messages and e-mail.

"The number one thing the majority of the malicious code we're seeing now does is disable or delete anti-virus and other security software," Dunham said. "In a lot of cases, once the user clicks on that attachment, it's already too late."

Now that you are clean, please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:
  • Update your AntiVirus Software - It is imperative that you update your Antivirus software at least once a week (Even more if you wish). If you do not update your antivirus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.

  • Use a Firewall - I can not stress how important it is that you use a Firewall on your computer. Without a firewall your computer is susceptible to being hacked and taken over. Simply using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly.
For a tutorial on Firewalls and a listing of some available ones see the link below:
    Understanding and Using Firewalls

  • Test your Firewall - Please test your firewall and make sure it is working properly.
    Test Firewall

  • Visit Microsoft's Update Site Frequently - It is important that you visit Windows Updates regularly. This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer. If there are new updates to install, install them immediately, reboot your computer, and revisit the site until there are no more critical updates.

  • Install Spybot - Search and Destroy - Install and download Spybot - Search and Destroy with its TeaTimer option. This will provide realtime spyware & hijacker protection on your computer alongside your virus protection. You should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an antivirus software.
A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:
Using Spybot - Search & Destroy to remove Spyware , Malware, and Hijackers

  • Install Ad-Aware - Install and download Ad-Aware. ou should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an antivirus software in conjunction with Spybot.
A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:
Using Ad-aware to remove Spyware, Malware, & Hijackers from Your Computer

  • Install SpywareBlaster - SpywareBlaster will added a large list of programs and sites into your Internet Explorer settings that will protect you from running and downloading known malicious programs.
A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:
Using SpywareBlaster to protect your computer from Spyware and Malware

  • Update your Java to the latest version. Uninstall any and all versions you have listed in add/remove programs and install the latest version from here:
    https://sdlc6c.sun.c...4E1EA2D176EE3EA

  • Update all these programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly. Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.

  • More info on how to prevent malware you can also find here (By Tony Klein)
Follow this list and your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically.

Thank you for allowing me to assist you.

Hello Susan, I want to thank you for your time and patience in helping me get my computer cleaned up. I have done everything you asked me to do in the last post except one, I havent been able to dowload the newest version of java. The link you posted didnt work. Is there another link I could try? I could also do a websearch for java and get a download from there. Again, I want to thank you for all your hard work and effort helping me. I hope to talk with you again, this time hopefully more so as a friend instead of tech support/client lol. Anyways, have a great night/day. God bless you take care. Tennafa.

Hello Tennafa,

Sorry about the link! Thank you for alerting me.

Actually it is a new update and not new release.

No problem, Susan. I went to their website last night after doing a search for java and downloaded the new update. I went thru my computer and found two other java programs installed so I deleted those off and rebooted before downloading and installing the update to make sure there wouldn't be any problems. I didn't know I had two javas on my computer so thank you for asking me to check to be sure no other java was on my machine. I can't thank you enough for helping me and I will make sure too that when I can manage it, I will donate to keep you all around so you can continue to help others like me. I do have a quick question about that tho....is there a limit to how much you can donate, such as a minimum amount and a maximum amount? Just curious....I know what I donate really won't be enough as far as Im concerned to show my appreciation, but it's what I can afford to give for now....in the future tho, you never know. Well, I hope you have a great day and hope to meet with you again another time. Take care and God bless :) Tennafa.

Hello Tennafa, I am not aware of any minimum or maximum. Whatever you are comfortable with donating will be appreciated. I am glad we were able to help you and God bless. :) Regards, Susan
