No that looks okay. I just wanted to make sure that the registry entries were fixed and they were.

======
Silent Runners

Download Silentrunners.zip from here and unzip it a new folder on your desktop.
  • Run the SilentRunners.vbs file.
  • You will receive a prompt: "Do you want to skip supplementary searches?" - click NO
  • If your antivirus has a script blocker, you will get a warning asking if you want to allow SilentRunners.vbs to run.
  • This script is not malicious so please allow it.
  • A text file will appear in the folder - it's not done, let it run (it won't appear to be doing anything!)
  • Once the "All Done!" prompt flashes up, open the text file and copy & paste it in your next reply.

Hello cmd9999, Are you using Mozilla Firefox as your browser? Are you having difficulty with changing the homepage for it? Have you tried "Tools" =>'Options"=>"General" and you will see a "Home Page" where it will have "Location". You need to set your page with the "Use Current", Use "Bookmark", or "Use Blank". Here you can specify the page (or tab group) that Firefox will show when you launch it or press the Home button. Enter the address in the Location(s) field. Click Use Current Page(s) to use the page you're currently visiting. You can also use multiple home pages. If more than one browser tab is currently opened, this button will set the whole tab group as a start page. To specify the home page(s) using a bookmark, click Use Bookmark.... Selecting a whole bookmark folder will load all the bookmarks inside it in tabs. If you don't want a home page to be loaded, click Use Blank Page.

Changing the homepage in Internet Explorer has no effect. Whatever it is that has infected my computer just keeps resetting the home page as soon as I change it.

Please try the following:

Launch Notepad, (Start > Programs > Accessories > Notepad)
Copy/paste all the blue text (Including REGEDIT) below to it:

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Desktop\Components\0]
"Source"="About:Home"
"SubscribedURL"="About:Home"
"FriendlyName"="My Current Home Page"

In Notepad, go to File (upper menu bar), and select: Save as
In the Save as prompt:
Save in: Desktop
File Name: dsktp.reg
Save as Type: All files
Click: Save
Exit out of Notepad.

Back on the Desktop, double-click on the dsktp.reg file just saved and click on Yes when asked to merge the information into the Registry.

Open Internet Explorer
On the menu at the top click the Tools =>Internet Options
On the "General" tab page you will see "Use Current", "Use Default", "Use Blank'
Change the address to what you want and select "Use Current".

OK...now that works. I think my Norton Anti-Virus was part o the problem. It was changing my page page back to what it used to be. Whenever it saw my try to change the homepage, I always told it not to. However, there was a drop down window which had some options that I wasn't looking at at one of those options was to allow the page to be changed. Once I allowed it to change my page to http://www.Yahoo.com, it stopped the warnings. Thanks for all your help!

Glad you are no longer having problems! :D Credit goes to Susan528, who did a good job of identifying and providing you instructions on how to get rid of the nasty malware that was present on the HijackThis log. Right now she has no Internet connection for a couple of days, so, she will get back with you as soon as possible. Thanks again for your patience.

Hello cmd9999,

Glad you got your homepage changed and thank you so much for telling us about Norton.

Let's do one more scan to double-check things please.

Now run this online scan using Internet Explorer:
Kaspersky Online Scanner from http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner

Next Click on Launch Kaspersky Online Scanner

You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
  • The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
  • Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
  • Now click on Scan Settings
  • In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
  • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
  • Standard
  • Scan Options:
  • Scan Archives
  • Scan Mail Bases
  • Click OK
  • Now under select a target to scan:
  • Select My Computer
  • This will program will start and scan your system.
  • The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
  • Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
  • Now click on the Save as Text button:
  • Save the file to your desktop.

Copy and paste that information from Kapersky in your reply with another hijackthis log.
