LDTate: Generally, the system has been running ok, but occasionally (maybe 5 times in the last 24 hours) something strange happens: let me give you an example: I just tried to log in to eBay.com, but I could not type: the keyboard was not functioning. So I tried to x out of that page, and clicking on the x in the upper right corner did nothing; so I tried to use "Control-Alt-Delete", but I had to click on the task manager about 5 or 6 times in order to end the process: it was like a freezing. I should mention, though, that the keyboard function had been acting up for a month before last week's infection that I asked you advice for, but the freezing is new. Any thoughts on this? Tony

LDTate: I don't have another keyboard to try- when I got this new one, I stupidly threw the old one out. The new one has no batteries, is not wireless: it's a rather silly Hp internet model, though I've never hooked up all the internet stuff. I did manage to uninstall Spydoctoe in Safe Mode though, and the computer might be running smoother. Tony

LDTate:

Sorry to bother you again, but I ran an AdAware scan this morning (the sytem has been fine: it was just to check) and the result was 17 "critical objects": SpywareQuake!!! There was also the warning: "SpywareQuake has a TAC rating of 10".

And of course, this the spyware that infected my computer earlier this month when you helped me; I checked also with Ewido, but it's scan came up with nothing.

So I was wondering if this is just SpywareQuake stuff hanging about but presenting no danger, or was/is it returning?

If you could check my HJT log (which was not run in SafeMode) and give any advice, I'd really appreciate it (again!)

sincerely,

Tony

This program will scan large amounts of files on your computer for known patterns so please be patient while it works. It will create a file named rapport.txt

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other options until you are asked to do so!

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

Please post:[list=1]
[*]c:\rapport.txt

LDTate: You might not recall as I'm sure you've helped many and are very busy, but every time I download SmitFraud, it just isn't funcional: I get a red screen which says: "Process exe file missing ! unzip all the archive in a folder press any key to continue" And as I mentioned above, I've already run a scan with Ewido (Which I downloaded on your advice) and it came up with nothing. If you double click the file, WinZip should open. Hightlite the file and select Unzip. Unzip it to the folder you created

Running the Clean

Warning: running option #2 on a non infected computer will remove your Desktop background.

Please print out or copy these instructions/tutorial to Notepad as the internet will not be (while in Safe Mode) available to you at certain points of the removal process. Make sure to work through all the Steps in the exact order in which they are listed below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before moving on with the fixes.

Reboot your computer in Safe Mode.
  • If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power.
  • Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
  • Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
  • Ensure that the Safe Mode option is selected.
  • Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
  • Login on your usual account.
______________________________

Open the SmitfraudFix Folder, then double-click smitfraudfix.cmd file to start the tool.
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press Enter.
Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.
You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?" answer Yes by typing Y and hit Enter.

Posted Image

The tool will also check if wininet.dll is infected. If a clean version is found, you will be prompted to replace wininet.dll. Answer Yes to the question "Replace infected file ?" by typing Y and hit Enter.

A reboot may be needed to finish the cleaning process, if you computer does not restart automatically please do it yourself manually. Reboot in Safe Mode.

The tool will create a log named rapport.txt in the root of your drive, eg: Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.
______________________________

Clean out your Temporary Internet files. Proceed like this:
  • Quit Internet Explorer and quit any instances of Windows Explorer.
  • Click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click Internet Options.
  • On the General tab, click Delete Files under Temporary Internet Files.
  • In the Delete Files dialog box, tick the Delete all offline content check box , and then click OK.

P.S. I should mention that when I returned to normal mode, several questions were asked of me, such as "home page has been changed: do you want restored?" and I chose "yes" to each of the 4 or 5 questions, as I didn't want the whole sytem changed. Hope this is ok.

Thanks,
Tony

Good Job

use Add/Remove Programs and remove Ewido unless you want to keep it. It's only a 14 day trial version.

Log looks good :D  How is it running any issues?

You need to create a new Clean restore point.

Note: This will remove all previous Restore Points

Turn off System Restore:

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Restart your computer, turn it back on.

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Remove the Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Check "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, Uncheck "Show hidden files and folders."
Check "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.

If you dont have these programs I would recommend that you get them. Spywareblaster, Spywareguard. They will add 1000's of sites to your resticted zone and block some hijacks from happening. I also have a FREE FIREWALL and FREE ANTI VIRUS if you need one.

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system.

Keep your system up to date and run Adaware & Spybot, once a week works, and hopefully you will be ok from here on. Both are available below.

Safe Surfing. :D

I would also suggest you read this:
