Followed instructions given, however, found recycle bin empty.
C:\windows\temp\ has one file in it that keeps changing name. For example now called: TX3B87.EXE

Lets see if this will help get rid of the temp files..

Download and install System Security Suite. Set it up like this:

Click the "Clear Selected Items" button and accept the reboot option (you will want to shut down all other programs before running System Security Suite so you will be ready to reboot

Let me know how it goes.

I'm headed to bed, but we need to remove those temp files. Not sure what keeps loading them.

Hello LDTate Whenever I go to the Ssytem Security Suite link I keep getting: "Bandwidth Limit Exceeded The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to the site owner reaching his/her bandwidth limit. Please try again later. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Apache/1.3.34 Server at www.igorshpak.net Port 80" I'll continue to try. You run ATF-Cleaner again.

Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.

I succeeded in finding System Security Suite ver 1.06 which I ran as directed.
Then re-ran ATF-Cleaner and rebooted.
However, C:\Windows\Temp\LMFFDD.EXE (which is the same 169 kb file) reappeared.
Computer actually has startup music now, but still succept malware still present.

C:\Windows\Temp\LMFFDD.EXE (which is the same 169 kb file) Do you see other files in the Temp folder with the size of 169 kb? If so, can you delete them? If it gives you a error like it's in use, use ALT/CTRL/DEL and end the process for the file, then see if you can delete it. I'm trying to figure out what is causing these to start :scratch:

Used AFT Cleaner
Checked C:\windows\temp and found only one file there. It was the usual "anyname".exe for example:
C:\wndows\temp\ZCEF62.EXE The file is always 169 kb. Can't delete it using explorer.
However, using Ctrl/Alt/Del, I can end the process for the file. It then disappears from the Temp directory.
Unfortunately it reappears as "anyname".exe upon reboot.

Updated and ran Spyboot S&D. Nothing found.
Updated and ran Adaware. Nothing major found.
Updated and ran AVG (free). Nothing found.
Updated and ran A-Squared which found 17 items. All deleted. Windows temp directory still empty.
Ran System Security Suite 1.04 and rebooted. Then C:\wndows\temp\ZCEF62.EXE reappeared????

Otherwise computor running reasonably well.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Then download this program.

Open the program and click the "Run Locate.com" button.
Then click the "Compare" button (this will take a few minutes)
When it finishes click the "Make Log...." button.

Post the dll compare log to this thread.

Please download the trial version of ewido anti-malware 3.5 here:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/
Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

Then please run Ewido, click on the Scanner run a full scan and let it clean everything it finds. Save the logfile from the scan.

Restart your computer in normal mode and please post a new HijackThis log, as well as the log from the Ewido scan.

You'll always get temp files in the temp folder, but these aren't temp files, they are exacutable files.

click Start> Run> type in Msconfig tap enter key.
look in the Startup. List everything there and point out which ones have a check next to it.

Open C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\ <--Delete all FILES in this folder

This time before rebooting disconnect your internet connection (cable or phone line).
After reboot see if we have any files in the Temp folder.

Go ahead and plug the internet connection back in and post back what happened.

(Too annoying). Can not delete all in temp file unless I go into Safe mode. The one file remains ie "Anyname".exe As you say, there shouldn't be any executable files in the Temp directory. However, there is always this one. In safe mode with internet disconnected, empted the Windows\Temp folder. Still with internet disconnected, rebooted into normal mode only to find OUEFD3.exe reappeared in Temp folder. This suggests to me, infection is coming from on the actual laptop rather than from the internet? Any suggestions. Thanks, Regards Marty.

Lets see if Panda will help.

Panda ActiveScan

Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button
[*]A new window will open...click the Check Now button
[*]Enter your Country
[*]Enter your State/Province
[*]Enter your e-mail address and click send
[*]Select either Home User or Company
[*]Click the big Scan Now button
[*]If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
[*]It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
[*]When download is complete, click on Local Disks to start the scan
[*]When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location.

Note any thing that can't be fixed
Reboot when done.
